cah-MEEL. I think the pronunciation with the silent L is the original [name_u]French[/name_u].
It’s pronounced Cam-eel in [name_f]English[/name_f]
As a bilingual [name_u]French[/name_u] speaker I can confirm that it’s Cam-ee in [name_u]French[/name_u] because any word with ille is “ee” in that sound.
Cah-meel when I’m speaking [name_f]English[/name_f], in [name_u]French[/name_u] cah-mee-uh (the uh is very soft, almost inaudible though).
I want to say ka-MILL in [name_f]English[/name_f], never really understood -meel here.
In [name_u]French[/name_u] definitely ka-MEE.
The correct pronunciation is neither of those two - as a French speaker living in the US, sadly the correct pronunciation is very difficult for non-French speakers and this prevents me from using this name for my daughter even though I love it so much
