How do you pronounce Carys/Cerys?

I’ve been thinking that this is an interesting name. Not really my usual style but depending on how it’s pronounced I may like it. Is it [name]Ca[/name] as in Care- ris with a long “a” like the name [name]Carrie[/name] or is it [name]Ca[/name] - ris like if the the name [name]Chris[/name] was two syllables? I am not great at spelling words phonetically so hopefully my descriptions are understandable. Thanks!

Well I think it completely depends upon where you live. I live in the UK and I love the name [name]Carys[/name] but pronounce it as [name]Ca[/name]-Riss (the [name]CA[/name] sounding the same as [name]CA[/name] in [name]Cat[/name]). I’ve noticed that a lot of names are pronounced differently in the UK. If I’m right in the US names like [name]Cara[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Tara[/name] etc. Are pronounced like Care-uh, Tare-uh, [name]Claire[/name]-uh, whereas here it is pretty much as it looks Car, Clar, Tar all rhyming with Car and then the -uh sound at the end.

So in answer to your question I say it more like [name]Carrie[/name].

It’s care-us. Well, care-isss, really.

I say Care- ris

Edited for privacy.

Short answer, I say Care-is, but I go easy on that long “a” if that makes sense. Sort of between an “a” and an “e”.

I’d also say Care-iss for [name]Carys[/name], although [name]Cerys[/name] is another name entirely as I see it, more along the lines of sare-iss.

I know 2 people with this name, different spellings for each but both pronounced “care - iss”.

I like to think that [name_f]Carys[/name_f] is like what others above have said…
But I say that [name_f]Cerys[/name_f] is more like “Sair-Iss”. >.>

[name_f]My[/name_f] cousin’s name is [name_f]Karis[/name_f], and they say it Care-is. similar to [name_f]Karissa[/name_f].

From what I’ve read and heard, it is Care-iss, but than some want to pronounce it like the name: [name_f]Charis[/name_f]-(pronounced Kar-iss). I know [name_f]Charis[/name_f] is pronounced right from @[name_f]Elea[/name_f] at BritishBabyNames an expert who clarified [name_f]Charis[/name_f] pronunciation for me. I have a friend name [name_f]Charisse[/name_f] and she pronounced [name_f]Char[/name_f] as in [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] with an eece ending. But it all really can get confusing!
