I pronounce [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] as Dah-lee-yuh.
I say either DALL-ee-uh or [name_u]DAY[/name_u]-lee-uh (Dall like in [name_u]Dallas[/name_u]).
Duh-Lie-yuh
It’s the same either way.
I say Dah-lee-yuh for both [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Dalia[/name_f].
I pronounce [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] as “dah-lee-yuh” and [name_f]Dalia[/name_f] as “day-lee-yuh”, though they could both be pronounced the same.
This is one of those names that I like on paper but hate in real life precisely because of the pronunciation issues. I know two Dahlias- one prn. [name_u]DAY[/name_u]-lee-yuh and one DAHL-yuh. I find myself switching them both and sprinkling in DAYL-yuh as well. [name_m]Feel[/name_m] the same way about [name_u]Andrea[/name_u], [name_f]Tara[/name_f]/[name_u]Dara[/name_u]/[name_f]Cara[/name_f] and [name_f]Leila[/name_f].
I pronounce both [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Dalia[/name_f] as DAHL-ya (When I say it, it sounds closer to [name_m]Doll[/name_m]-- as in baby doll-- than Dall-- as in [name_u]Dallas[/name_u], TX).
[name_u]DAY[/name_u]-lee-uh for both, which I believe is the correct “British” (and therefore Australian) pronunciation.
I’ve always found Americans have so many pronunciations for names! For example, eizariyah mentioned [name_u]Andrea[/name_u], [name_f]Tara[/name_f], [name_u]Dara[/name_u] and [name_f]Cara[/name_f] - there is literally only one way to pronounce those names in Australia!
I pronounce [name_f]Daliah[/name_f] … [name_m]Doll[/name_m]-E-Ya …so beautiful, I love it!
Dahl-ya or [name_m]Doll[/name_m]-ya (which is really pretty much the same thing in my accent) and ONLY TWO syllables. Three slays me, hate it.
[name_f]Dalia[/name_f] is definitely two syllables in Hebrew. Sometimes it’s spelt [name_f]Dalya[/name_f], which might clarify that?
