I’ve only met one person with that name and it was pronounced Uh~LIE~us
I’d pronounce it as uh-LIE-us (like the above) but I’ve never known anyone with the name so I could be wrong. I’m from the UK, if that makes a difference.
Also uh-LIE-us
Another uh-LIE-us
uh-LIE-us. I chose the middle option, accidentally.
Eh-LIE-us or uh-LIE-us.
I only know one, so I pronounce it the way he does.
I’m in Australia.
I live on the west coast if the us, every [name_u]Elias[/name_u] I’ve known has pronounced it ee-LIE-as. Like [name_m]Eli[/name_m], with the added ending.
I’ve only ever heard it pronounced as el-EE-us (I’m Canadian, if that makes any difference). I’m totally out of the loop on this one, I guess. That being said, the el-EYE-us pronunciation is very handsome!
I say it like Eh-LIE-us
i know two… both pronounced differently. ee-lie-us and el-ee-us
I say uh-LIE-us. I’m in NYC.
Wow, what an unexpected result! Thanks everyone for the feedback!
I’m from Europe originally, so I’d want the name to be pronounced Eh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-us. Sounds like we’d have to correct people a lot - or just accept that Ee-LIE-as or Uh-LIE-us (can hardly tell the difference) would be the standard pronunciation in the US (where we live).
I’m not a fan of the LIE sound in the name, so that might render it unusable for us.
I know two people named [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and both pronounce it Eh-LIE-us.
I’d pronounce it [name_f]Elle[/name_f]-eye-us
([name_f]Elle[/name_f] like the letter L)
uh-LIE-us in English and Eh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-us in other languages
I have met boys who pronounced it both ways, so I don’t really know how to answer this one. I’m going to have to say [name_f]EL[/name_f]-ee-as, since the majority (2/3) of the ones I’ve met have pronounced it that way.
Added as an afterthought: The two boys who I knew who pronounced it [name_f]EL[/name_f]-ee-as were [name_m]French[/name_m], if that makes any difference
I say uh-LIE-us
I say all and more, [name_f]Ell[/name_f]-lee-us as my favourite version. When I see someone’s named [name_u]Elias[/name_u] (which has happened all of once), I usually ask because there’s so many different pronunciations.
I know several and they all pronounce it as Uh-LIE-as. I’m from NYC.
