How do YOU pronounce Eliza?

Our baby girl is expected in 5 weeks and we need some help deciding on a name! My husband and I love [name]Eliza[/name], but are concerned it will be pronounced two ways: E-lie-zah or [name]Ah[/name]-lie-zah. Which way would you say it? We like the nickname [name]Ellie[/name], so pronouncing it E-lie-zah may allow us to use that.

Here are some of our top choices for names:
[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (nn [name]Ellie[/name]?)
[name]Stella[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Lyla[/name] [name]Winter[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Eliana[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (nn [name]Ellie[/name])
[name]Finleigh[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]January[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (nn [name]Addy[/name])
[name]Winona[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (nn [name]Winnie[/name])

Would love to hear some feedback on this list of names! Thanks!

[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (nn [name]Ellie[/name]?): I love [name]Eliza[/name], but because [name]Rose[/name] is the most popular middle name, it feels like a filler to me now. I do love [name]Rose[/name] as a first name, though!

I pronounce it Ih-lye-zuh or Uh-lye-za. But my [name]Texas[/name] accent turns a lot of e’s to i’s.

[name]Ellie[/name] works however you pronounce it

I pronounce it E-lie-za.

I agree, [name]Ellie[/name] will work as it begins with “[name]El[/name]”, and that variations in pronunciation of [name]Eliza[/name] are more dialect, unless someone decides they like to pronounce it [name]ELL[/name]-iz-ah, or Eh-lee-za (for their daughter; no one will presume to pronounce it that way on someone else). I pronounce it [name]Ull[/name]-LIE-zah, and pretty much assume any sort of vague vowel Ih or Uh sound is valid as is [name]Ell[/name], or Ee, with emphasis on LIE, then zah or zuh, and expect it to vary on the speaker of the name with no correction. I use the h to mean the short sound of the letter, I as in sit, u as in sun.

My little sister is called [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and we pronounce it as “Uh-lie-zah”. But we don’t really mind how other people say the first little bit. She gets “ah-lie-zah”, “Eh-lie-zah” and “Ih-lie-zah”. She doesn’t mind and responds to them all.

My daughter is [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and we pronounce it as “Uh-mee-liya” but we get “ah-mee-liya”, “eh-mee-liya” and “ih-mee-liya”. We really don’t mind.

I would pronounce [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] has E-ly-za. I feel [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is more of a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] than a name in its own right.

Names I like from your list:
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - I like it but I dislike the nickname [name_f]Addy[/name_f]. I would prefer [name_f]Della[/name_f].
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - It’s fine but I would prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is fine as a nickname though I would prefer [name_f]Ella[/name_f].

Eh-lee-zah.

But [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] is better in my opinion.

I pronounce it [name_f]El[/name_f]-EYE-zah

[name_f]Elle[/name_f] Lie Zuh
