[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] - eh-lie-zuh
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f] - eh-lees-uh
Yeah, what grackym said. It is strange that it evolved that way, since it came from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but I’ve known a lot of Elizas (and seen a lot of characters named [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]) and it’s always been Eh-LIE-zuh.
To me, [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is eh-LIE-zuh and [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] is eh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-suh.
I pronounce [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] Eh-LIE-zah. My middle name is [name_f]Aliza[/name_f] ([name_m]Ah[/name_m]-lee-zah), and I’m constantly having to explain that to people!
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] - eh-LIY-zə
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f] - eh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-sə
I personally adore [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].
Me and most everyone I’ve met pronounce [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] eh-LIE-zah and [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] eh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-sah.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] pronounced as eh-LIE-zah because of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] Thornberry. I haven’t seen the name elsewhere so that’s what my pronunciation is based on.
I’d pronounce [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] differently. As eh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-sah
I pronounce [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] eh-lie-zah. I pronounce [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] eh-liss-ah.
I’ve never heard eh-lee-za for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] before.
For me:
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] - Ee-ly-za
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f] - [name_f]Elise[/name_f]-ah
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] - eh-LIE-zah
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f] - eh-LISS-ah
Eh lie zuh. One of my favorites.
As the above replies say [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] for me is- Eh-lie-za
And [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] would be Eh-lee-sa if I met one.
I’m Australian so not US or UK but watch plenty of tv and movies from both and have always heard [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] pronounced as above!
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]: eh-LIE-zuh or ee-LIE-zuh
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f]: eh-LEES-uh
I’ve never thought about [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] being pronounced a different way.
My exact thought. Sometimes I also pronounce [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] with a long E at the beginning, like key without the K.
I say it more like ee-lie-zuh
Eh-lee-za as it comes from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (Eh-lie-za makes no sense to me).
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] are the same to me.
I have only ever heard [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] pronounced eh-LIE-zuh. [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] is pronounced eh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-sah. Like [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] but with an E at the front.
My thoughts @mccharlie, however after this thread I see that the US and the UK majority don’t think the same.
