I pronounce it like [name]Ell[/name]-oh-wen, but I couldn’t tell you the proper Cornish pronunciation.
Pronounced exactly like it’s spelled - el-oh-wen.
I pn it [name]El[/name], like the letter L, Oh, like the letter O, and en/in like in. In simple terms: L-O-IN
I think the W is kind of silent when you say the name really fast or naturally, but if I said it slowly, the W does come through but it’s really soft, so kind of like When, L-O-When.
I’m curious because I’ve heard people say the correct pronunciation is something more along the lines of uh-lo-in, which might eliminate the possibility of [name]Ellie[/name] as a nn…
I say [name_f]Ell[/name_f]-uh-wen.
[name_f]Imagine[/name_f] it like saying ‘el-[name_u]Owen[/name_u]’, but run together; that’s how I remember that the stress isn’t on the ‘el’.
I say it [name_f]El[/name_f]-oh-wen
I instinctively put the emphasis on the first syllable but I’m told that’s incorrect. It;s SUPPOSED to be [name_f]El[/name_f]-OHwen
Pronounced [name_f]El[/name_f]-[name_u]Owen[/name_u] with the emphasis on the O in Cornwall. Americanized [name_f]Elle[/name_f]-oh-when. Watch [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and the Bramble bush YouTube video
