How do you pronounce Eulalie?

I instinctively pronounce it You-lay-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]. But how’s it actually pronounced? Thanks!

You-lay-lee came to mind before I saw your suggestion. I once knew a lady with this name and that’s how she said it!

That’s exactly how it’s said in English! In [name_m]French[/name_m], it’s sort of like eh-oo-lah-lee. But “eh” and “oo” are sort of smooshed together into one sound. ehoo-lah-lee. I think it’s much more attractive in English than [name_m]French[/name_m], mainly because the “ehoo” sound is essentially the way the [name_m]French[/name_m] say “uhhhh”, which is exactly why most [name_m]French[/name_m] don’t seem to like it very much. It’s seen as a very unattractive sound in [name_m]French[/name_m], lol. But I think [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] is gorgeous in English.

I say You-lay-lee. I think [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] are beautiful names.

[name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] is Yoo-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-lee or ([name_m]French[/name_m]) Eh-oo-LAH-lee. The eh-oo is sort of one sound…but then again, my [name_m]French[/name_m] isn’t very good. I pronounce it the Anglicized way.

[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] is Eh-oo-LAH-lee-ah. I guess it could be Yoo-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-lee-uh, but I one of the languages I speak is Spanish, so I pronounce it the Spanish way.

FYI I prefer [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f].

I instinctively say You-[name_m]Lay[/name_m]-[name_u]Lee[/name_u] but as pretty as the name is, all I see/think is Ukulele!

I say yew-LAHR-lee, (not as much ‘r’ as that suggests, but a long ‘ahh’ sound) and [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] as yew-LAHR-lee-uh.

I pronounce [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] YOU-luh-lee, but [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] as you-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-lee-uh when speaking my natural American English. I like both names quite a bit, but since I quite prefer the sound “luh” to “lay”, my top choice is [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f].

I find it quite interesting that others view oppositely to me. It’s true, if I were to say [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] in [name_m]French[/name_m] it would sound more like “ehoo-lah-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]” and [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] in Spanish would be more along the lines of “eh-oo-LAH-lee-uh”. I love both of these pronunciations quite a bit, but I think it would be a bit unreasonable to expect them to be upheld in a English speaking environment (at least in The States).
