How do you pronounce Joie?

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce the name [name_f]Joie[/name_f]?

Like Joy? Joey? Jwah? (with a soft J sound and similar to Zsa Zsa) or something completely different?

I would prounce it like the boys name [name_u]Joey[/name_u].

[name_m]Just[/name_m] like [name_f]Joy[/name_f].

That depends where I am. In the US, I’d definitely assume it was pronounced “[name_f]Joy[/name_f].” I used to live in [name_m]Quebec[/name_m], though, and if I saw this name there, I would assume it was pronounced “zj-wha” (i.e. the [name_m]French[/name_m] way).

[name_u]Joey[/name_u]. I live in the US, for what it’s worth.

Jwah, but I’m [name_m]French[/name_m]

I would pronounce it just like the boy’s name [name_u]Joey[/name_u]

I have a friend with this name & it is pronounced [name_f]Joy[/name_f].

I would pronounce it Zhwa as in the [name_m]French[/name_m] word [name_f]Joie[/name_f].

I teach a teenager who spells her name like this. She pronounces it just like [name_u]Joey[/name_u]. I’m in the Southern US.

Zhwah - I took four years of [name_m]French[/name_m].

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

Because it is the [name_m]French[/name_m] translation of [name_f]Joy[/name_f], I would pronounce it “zj-wha”, however I live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] where most people speak at least a small amount of [name_m]French[/name_m], so it may be more seen as “[name_f]Joy[/name_f]” in other, non-[name_m]French[/name_m] speaking countries.

I’d say it the [name_m]French[/name_m] way, zh-wha.

Zh-wha, the [name_m]French[/name_m] way. I’m in US, but I speak [name_m]French[/name_m]. If you are going for the [name_u]Joey[/name_u] pronunciation, I would spell it that way and if your going for [name_f]Joy[/name_f], I’d spell it that way.
