I love the look of “[name]Junia[/name]” when I’ve seen it written down but how is it pronounced? I imagine its like “[name]Junior[/name]” which I’m not so keen on.
Any ideas?

I feel the same, on paper its like [name]June[/name] meets [name]Julia[/name], which is wonderful. But when I say it out loud theres no difference between it and [name]Junior[/name], not so wonderful.
I’d love to hear other peoples answers because so many berries seem to like it at the moment and if we’re all pronouncing it like [name]Junior[/name], I don’t understand the appeal.
Interesting thread
With my accent, [name]Junia[/name] and [name]Junior[/name] are pretty different. I say it like [name]Julia[/name] with an “N,” but I say “junior” with a strong “R” sound on the end.
I know someone that named their little girl [name]Junia[/name]. She is a cutie but I did have trouble knowing how to pronounce it when she was born. I was told to say it like you would petunia. I hadn’t even thought of it sounding like junior.
I’m another one whose accent makes [name]Junia[/name] and [name]Junior[/name] sound exactly the same. I think the prettiness of the name is accent dependent in this case.
Thats all really interesting, thanks guys. I’m saying [name]Junia[/name] like “[name]June[/name]-ee-ah” which is how I say [name]Junior[/name]. I can see how other that wouldn’t be the case in another accent. But I think it does rule out the name for me which is a real shame. Like the pp says, I look at it and see a pretty, luscious cross between [name]June[/name] (love!) and [name]Julia[/name], but it would just mean way too much explanation if I used it.
I’m still considering [name]June[/name] and [name]Juna[/name] which are still beautiful to me.
I pronounce it [name]June[/name]-ee-ah
I pronounce it JOON-ya.
Maybe it is because of my extensive years of Spanish but when I saw this I automatically thought Hoo-Nee-[name]AH[/name]. Spanish for [name]June[/name] is Junio, and you pronounce J’s like H’s in Spanish.
I pronnounce it two ways, [name]June[/name]-ee-ah, or Joon-ya. More recently I’ve been saying it Joon-ya, or if I’ve bee reading some things in [name]German[/name], I’ll say Yoon-ya. I think it’s pretty. But I’d have issues saying it.
I think this name is so lovely. I pronounce it both ‘[name]June[/name]-nee-ah’ & ‘[name]June[/name]-yah’. When I first saw it, I was not sure how to pronounce it, but thought it was pronounced ‘[name]June[/name]-nee-ah’.
I’ve been considering this name as well and that’s the only problem I have with it, some people are saying it sounds like [name]Junior[/name]. It doesn’t in my accent. A woman in Spain said on another board it was prn zhoo-nee-ah there and I like that better. I’m adding a bit of a zh- kind of sound to the J as it sounds nicer.
Where I’m at now the J will be pronounced Y, so I will have to be prepared for that as well.
As a [name_f]Junia[/name_f], my mother is a [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and grandfather was a minister, we pronounce it like [name_f]Julia[/name_f] but with an ‘n’.
[name_u]June[/name_u] knee ahhh.
[name_u]June[/name_u]-ee-uh
I’m American so [name_f]Junia[/name_f] and [name_m]Junior[/name_m] are not even close
JU nee uh. I live in the PNW in the United States
i would pronounce it like [name_m]Junior[/name_m]. I know a girl with this name who says Juh-nye-uh though
Joon-ee-ah
It’s so pretty - but in my English accent it does sound exactly like i’d say [name_m]Junior[/name_m].
With my American accent, the two are very different:
[name_f]Junia[/name_f] = [name_u]June[/name_u]-E-uh
[name_m]Junior[/name_m] = [name_u]June[/name_u]-YER
But if your accent pronounces the two the same, I agree that I’d avoid [name_f]Junia[/name_f]
