I love how the name looks on paper and I know it’s popular in Australia, however I have never met a [name]Lachlan[/name] or heard the name pronounced in the US.
Is it [name]LOCK[/name]-Lan?
Is is LACK-lan? Is there a hard “CK” sound?
Or is it [name]LAKE[/name]-lan?
I’ve looked up the pronunciation online, but I get both [name]LOCK[/name]-lan and LACK-lan and I’d like to hear what the most common pronunciation is in Australia/UK.
[name]Hi[/name], I love the name too… it’s on my shortlist!
It’s a Scottish name and is pronounced [name]Lock[/name]-lan by purists but I guess if you really wanted to pronounce it the other way there is nothing stopping you. Personally I wouldn’t want my child to be named after ‘something lacking’?!
The way I say it (and have always heard it said) seems closer to [name]LOCK[/name]-lin than [name]LOCK[/name]-lan. Either way, it’s absolutely a [name]LOCK[/name] sound.
Absolutely in Australia it is always [name]LOCK[/name]-lun. With Lachie (locky) as a nickname. Some people spell it [name]Lochlan[/name] which is also legit so that might help with pronunciation if people aren’t likely to know the name. I really like it but it’s way too popular here.
