In my accent (northeast US) both mad-eh-len and mad-eh-lyn are said almost exactly the same way. This is how I say it when it is spelled this way. The only time I consider saying mad-eh-[name_f]LINE[/name_f] is when it’s spelled [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], and even then I am more prone to say mad-eh-lyn unless told otherwise.

In pretty sure with this spelling, the pronunciation is supposed to be “ma-de-len” but I am always tempted to say “ma-de-lane”

Naturally, I want to pronounce it mad-uh-leen, and it’s sort of a mix between that and mad-uh-lane/mad-uh-len (they pretty much sound the same to me).

I pronounce it mad-uh-lynn.

mad-uh-len for me, how it’s supposed to be pronounced.

The correct way - mad-uh-len, as there is no “ih” sound in [name_m]French[/name_m].

Yel, agree with above poster. The correct pronunciation is ma duh lehn. In US youll likely here ma duh lin though as well. [name_m]Ive[/name_m] never heard the other two options listed in the poll, Im guessing those are southern mispronunciations.

mad-uh-lynn/mad-uh-len. Pretty much the same, and I use this pronunciation for all of its spellings.

I pronounce it mad-uh-len. [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] are mad-uh-lyn to me. I would say [name_f]Madelaine[/name_f] like mad-uh-lane.

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is Ma-de-len, [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] is Ma-de-lynn & [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is Ma-de-line

I vary between the [name_m]French[/name_m] mad-len and the more American mad-eh-len. I think the latter is more realistic, but I do love the way it sounds when [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is said in [name_m]French[/name_m]. :stuck_out_tongue:

I pronounce it mad-uh-line or mad-len
