How do you pronounce Milla?

I am loving the sound of [name]Milla[/name] (Mee-luh) but Im not sure thats they way its pronounced or if I could pronounce it that way. Thanks!

Since there are two l’s, I would assume it’s pronounced [name]MIL[/name]-ah (I believe it is originally a diminutive of [name]Camilla[/name]). If you are looking for a MEE-lah pronunciation, I would probably look for a different spelling.

[name]Mila[/name] might be an option, but I would assume a MY-la pronunciation with that. Meela or [name]Mela[/name] might be your best bet to get the pronunciation you’re looking for.

Okay thank you! Does Meelah look okay? Or Melah? C:

To get the pronounciation you want, I would spell it [name]Mila[/name] (Like [name]Mila[/name] Kunis). I would pronounce [name]Milla[/name] the same way as the pp.

I prn [name]Mila[/name] MEE-lah and [name]Milla[/name] MILL-uh.

I agree – [name]Mila[/name] is MEE-luh, and [name]Milla[/name] is MILL-uh. They’re both pretty. I’ve been thinking about them lately, actually!

I have a daughter called [name]Milla[/name] and we say it [name]Mil[/name] uh. Such a beautiful name better than Meelah. So soft and lovely.

Thank you all! Now I just have to decide between the spelling of [name]Mila[/name] and Melah. I love the name but only the pronuciation of Mee-luh. [name]Mil[/name]-uh just doesnt sound as beautiful to me. Oh yeah and now to decide on a middle name!!! haha.

As I recall, [name]Milla[/name] Jovovich says hers meela. Not following English rules, but that’s because it’s not English. Apparently, in Eastern European languages, doubling a consonant doesn’t shorten the preceding vowel. I believe that, in Russian, it’s usually short for Ludmilla (which can also be spelled [name]Ludmila[/name] or [name]Lyudmila[/name] with the same pronunciation) - a name I’d love except that it’s tiring to say!

I’d say that Melah is the best if you want people to pronounce it like 'Mee-luh."

Looking at that, I’d first guess mellah (short e).

As a general rule, ‘[name]Milla[/name]’ = MILL-[name]AH[/name] & ‘[name]Mila[/name]’ = MEE-LAH to me!

If you want the mee prn, I would use [name]Mila[/name]. I don’t like Meela or Meelah at all. [name]Mela[/name] I would say mell-uh like the beginning of [name]Melissa[/name]. I love [name]Mila[/name] though!

I agree exactly. I love both names and both pronunciations too

Instinctively, I would say [name_f]Milla[/name_f] as Mill-uh, [name_f]Mila[/name_f] as My-lah, and Melah as -[name_u]Mel[/name_u]-uh. If you’re looking for Mee-la, I would go with [name_f]Mila[/name_f] because I think the long i and short i pronunciations are both accepted.

Have you considered [name_f]Mira[/name_f]? That I would instinctively pronounce as Mee-ra.

Yup. I’ve always found [name_f]Mila[/name_f] a bit slimy but I love [name_f]Milla[/name_f] (first heard it in a magazine when I was like 11, and it’s been a guilty pleasure ever since).
