The name [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] has been mentioned here a few times recently, and I’ve been pronouncing it like [name_m]OTT[/name_m]-uh-lee, but apparently the [name_m]German[/name_m] pronunciation is o-TEE-lee-uh. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you say it?
I pronounce it oh-[name_m]TIL[/name_m]-ee but my great grandmother was [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] and she said it oh-[name_m]TIL[/name_m]-ee-ah (sort of).
Like “utterly”, only with “illy” in the end. Have no idea if that’s terribly wrong.
Otterly - like utterly but for otters.
ott-ill-lee
I say “oh-[name_m]TILL[/name_m]-ee.”
Not a long O but Au-til-lee
The beginning syllable I pronounced like Otter or [name_m]Otto[/name_m].
The ending I pronounce like [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] which probably sounds different in [name_m]German[/name_m] as well. However in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u], I would expect the [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] like pronunciation of the ending.
I say it ah-till-ee.
I have a good friend named [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] and she pronounces it like “Otter-lee”.
I flip flop between:
‘o-TEE-lee-a’
and
‘[name_m]OTT[/name_m]-ill-ee’
‘o’ like the short ‘o’ in hot and pot.
Oh-tee-lee
I pronounce it [name_m]Ott[/name_m]-Ill-lee.
Like [name_m]Ott[/name_m]-uh-lee.
I pr . it Oh - tee -lee .
The birth of influencer Zoe Sugg’s daughter Ottilie Rue has everyone interested in all things Ottilie! So let’s revive this — how do you say Ottilie? Type it out or upload a recording!
I’m an American and I’ve always said AH-till-ee — but I’ve never met anyone with this name!
I say OH-till-ee
I say OTT-il-ee, rhymes with “dottily”. It’s a sweet and quirky name with an upscale feel, fashionable where I live in [name_f]England[/name_f] for a few years now. I know a one-year-old nicknamed [name_u]Ottie[/name_u] and know of a couple of slightly older girls too.
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] is a lovely name, congratulations to the family!
o-TIL-ee with the emphasis on the middle syllable
@katinka and I pronounced Ottilie for our Accent Challenge last year. Ottilie is at 7:19 (I tried to post a clip, but my files are too big )
[name_m]Just[/name_m] watched the accent challenge and yep, I do say it like oddily (odd-ih-lee).
