How do *you* pronounce Rosemary?

It occurred to me recently that even though [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is one of my absolute favourites, I don’t know the definitive way of pronouncing it.

I say it like [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-mary ([name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-mER-ee) the two names together with the emphasis on the first.

But I’m fine with the 2 syllable [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-MREE pn too, I sometimes use that when saying it quickly out loud.

And there’s the pn somewhere in the middle, where the ‘[name_f]Mary[/name_f]’ part is said more like ‘[name_f]Marie[/name_f]’ making it [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-mh-[name_f]REE[/name_f].

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you say it? Also it would be helpful if you could add where you’re from or what your accent is. Thank you!

Like the two names [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-[name_f]Mary[/name_f]

I would say it [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-muh-ree or [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-mhree if saying it quickly.
I’ve lived all over the place but would say my accent is mostly southern English, fairly bland!

I would never have thought to say it another way than [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-[name_f]Mary[/name_f]. To me, [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f] is a different name. I didn’t know a two-syllable pronunciation existed and I think it’s rather ugly actially.

[name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-merry (three syllables)

I say rose-mary. Like the two names separate, not as rose-marie. But I’m from nyc… That’s the only way I’ve heard it but I don’t know if my location has something to do with it lol.

The first way: [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-mary (ie, [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-mare-ee). I agree [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f] is a different name, and i think maybe the 2 syllables is just an accent thing, like ah-meel-ee-ah vs. ah-meel-ya?

When I say it, usually it comes out something like [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-mree, which is why I used to find the spelling a little odd; I just didn’t realise you could say [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-mary too haha :p. [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f] comes out more like [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-muh-ree though. I’m in [name_f]England[/name_f].

Me, too. [name_m]Just[/name_m] two names, emphasis on both.

Southern [name_f]England[/name_f], [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-muh-ree/[name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-mree. I’m pretty sure that most people in my area would say the same.

Like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I am American. Husband is Australian, he says the same.

[name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f] I would be inclined to say like rose-muh-[name_f]REE[/name_f]. [name_f]Marie[/name_f] said the American way, muh-[name_f]REE[/name_f] almost m’[name_f]REE[/name_f]. But I asked Aussies how THEY’D say it and some said “same as [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], it’s a spelling” and some got into a huge drag-out fight about how [name_f]Marie[/name_f] should be said. (As half said [name_f]MAR[/name_f]-ee and half said muh-[name_f]REE[/name_f])

I really REALLY love [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f].

I always thought it was pretty straight forward, but I much prefer [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]…or [name_f]Marie[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]…just so much trouble to convince all the Rosemarys to change their names.

I pronounce it the same way as you, [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-mary ([name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-mER-ee).

I say it as [name_f]Rose[/name_f] plus [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-mree is a pet peeve! I’m in the U.S.

I say it like [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f].

[name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-mare-ee from [name_u]Philadelphia[/name_u]

It’s funny, I was just thinking about this earlier today when I read another post of yours about [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. I’m in SE [name_f]England[/name_f] and I’ve always said [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-mree, as do most other people in my area. I do sometimes force myself to stress the [name_f]Mary[/name_f] a little more because I think it sounds nicer but the 2 1/2 syllable pronunciation is far more natural for me.

[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] + [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-mair-ee. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like the two names separately.

I’d spell [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-muh-ree: [name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f].

Like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] + [name_f]Mary[/name_f].
