How do you pronounce Sequoia?

It was a name suggested to me on here and im intrigued by it but not sure im pronouncing it right.

I pronounce it like “Suh-KOI-uh” or “Seh-KOI-uh”, koi as in the fish or the word coy. It’s an interesting name… kind of a mouthful [name_f]IMO[/name_f] but I don’t mind it. There’s a member here with a little boy, [name_u]Sequoia[/name_u] [name_u]Orion[/name_u]. I also kind of dig that it has every single vowel in it. I can’t think of a single other name where that’s true!

I say it suh-coy-a

Seh-koy-ya. Like the tree.

Seh-KOY-uh. One of my friends has another friend named that.

Sih-KOY-a… Quirky and pretty.

Seh-KOY-uh. I have a friend called this.

Seh-koy-uh

Same as others have said (I emphasize the coy part though). I have a friend whose younger brother is named [name_f]Sequoya[/name_f]. That kinda lends to the pronunciation if that helps.

Suh kwoi uh

se-kwoy-a, like the tree!

I say Suh-KWOY-uh. I’m not sure that’s right, and to be honest I don’t want it to be, since the ‘kw’ sound puts me off a lot.

Yes, same here. I really have grown to love this one.

Yes, same here. I really have grown to love this one. I could unfortunately see it catching on and becoming super trendy though. I hope I’m wrong, but it has that vibe. It wouldn’t surprise me.

Oh, that’s me! We say Seh-KOY-uh, no weird w sound. I also loved that it has every vowel, and everything else about it!

I also don’t see it becoming super trendy, at least not for awhile, given how extremely uncommon it is right now.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Wow someone who has used this name in real life! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you find people compliment your sons name?

Actually, yes, almost everyone loves it, although we do get the occasional “that’s interesting…”. We also get a fair amount of people who assume he’s a girl, but that could also be due to us dressing him in mostly gender neutral clothing and him being super pretty, lol
