So we’ve been seriously considering the name [name_m]Truett[/name_m] for our baby due in [name_u]February[/name_u], and have even tried out calling him that name. But we’ve run into a snag. Apparently, it’s easy even for us who want to use the name to pronounce it like Truitt. I’ll say it both ways and can barely tell. And it’s much easier for me to say it with the short ‘I.’ The problem is I thought I’d liked the spelling [name_m]Truett[/name_m] more as I believe? this is the original spelling. But I’m worried that others will say it with an ‘I’ regardless of the spelling.
I’m from the Midwest. So I’m wondering how my fellow berries pronounce the name [name_m]Truett[/name_m], does region matter in this, and which spelling do you prefer?
Thanks this helps a lot. I’m so glad to see that the [name_u]Tru[/name_u]-it pronunciation is common and not just us. And that it doesn’t seem to conflict with the spelling we like🙂.
Yes to the true-it pronunciation! Keep saying it. If you get used to saying true-it without second guessing it, I think it’s such a great, handsome name to use!
I pronounce both [name_m]Truett[/name_m] and Truitt like “true-it”, so if that’s the pronunciation you want, I think you’re golden! If you prefer a true-ett pronunciation, I don’t really think they are that different and they do kind of run together in speech. It’s a lovely name. I personally prefer the Truitt spelling because the only person I know with that name (in his case a surname) spells it like that.
We pronounce my [name_m]Truett[/name_m]’s name with a soft “i” sound; since the stress is on the first syllable it’s not too distinguishable from an “e” sound.
I will say his name is often misspelled; we get some pretty odd variations. But it doesn’t really bother me, and the feedback we get is quite positive.
That’s great to know from someone who has given the name! I really didn’t even notice the difference in sound until my husband brought it up. That’s a good point that the stress is on the [name_u]Tru[/name_u] part.
I pronounce it like you. I’d keep the spelling [name_m]Truett[/name_m] bc it’s most recognizable. I don’t really think people will mess it up, it’s a relatively common last name. I’m from the southern US btw.
