It has a nice sound and lovely meaning, but I would still expect a [name]Vera[/name] I meet to be in her 90s, not a baby. I think I’ll have to meet some cute baby [name]Vera[/name]'s before that feeling will be erased. :slight_smile:

I had read it in a book and fell in love with it. I thought it was pronounced Vair-uh. I realized later that [name]Veer[/name]-uh is the most common pronunciation and I didn’t like it as much. Since then it has grown on me though. :slight_smile: I have since met a [name]Vera[/name] (she was in her 50s). I have no problem picturing it on a little girl.

I love it, I think it’s so underused! My grandma had a friend named [name]Vera[/name] (who was very fit and youthful for her age) so I have always had positive associations with the name. I like it on its own and as a nickname for [name]Veronica[/name]. :slight_smile:

I think [name]Vera[/name] is fabulous! I voted on the veer-ah pronunciation, but the more I say it, the more I think I should have voted “other” - it kind of sounds more like Vee-rah when I say it (which to my ear sounds different than veer-ah). I think I’m just weird…lovely name, though.

Before I heard it in the wild, I assumed it was pronounced Vair-uh. I was thrilled to hear it pronounced out loud as [name]Veer[/name]-uh, and I looove the way it sounds (it’s on my short list). Vair-uh would be a no-go for us, as it rhymes with my name.

I guess I’d say both. I think it would depend on the situation and the other words in the sentence oddly enough. I like both, and they feel close enough to me that one wouldn’t stick out as being completely wacky and wrong.

I’ve know a couple of older woman named [name]Vera[/name]. [name]Both[/name] pronounce it “[name]VEER[/name]-uh” which I believe is the English pronunciation. In Europe, it would probably be pronounced the other way (VAIR-uh).

I pronounce it both ways depending on what first pops into my head when I see it. I would say 7/10 times I pronounce it vair-uh

I’ve heard it said both ways. I prefer and am more naturally inclined to say vair-uh, but both are nice and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear either used.

I love the name [name]Vera[/name]! I pronounce it as vair-uh, but I also like it as veer-uh.

I pronouce it veer-uh but when I try to say it correctly as I think it should be would vhey-ruh… But I also say V-air-uh because I think it sounds more feminine. . Cant decide which I like best, all so lovely!

My grandma was from Hungary and her name was still pronounced [name_m]Veer[/name_m]-ah

I say VAIR-ah, too, but it’s a bit softer than that–sort of a mix between VAIR- and a softer “[name_f]VER[/name_f]”. It’s very soft and melodic, imo! [name_m]VEER[/name_m]-ah sounds harsher to me, I don’t like it nearly as much.

Vair-uh sounds so much prettier to me. I really like it to honor a family member named [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Verna[/name_f]’ but dislike [name_m]VEER[/name_m]-uh.

My paternal Grandmother’s name was [name_f]Vera[/name_f], pronounced [name_m]VEER[/name_m]-ah. Not sure if location/nationality makes any difference to the pronunciation but she was Welsh.
