I’m curious how people actually pronounce [name]Viggo[/name]. I always said a hard G but I came across a source that says it is a soft G “VihJH-ow” (babynamespedia), which I like better. I probably watched an interview with the LOTR actor but it’s been such a long time now I can’t even remember how he says it! What’s the consensus?
[name]Viggo[/name] Mortenson says his name VEE - go with the hard g sound. I’ve never heard it any other way. I like it though, but not so much with the soft sound you described.
Here’s some links:
I always said it like VIG-oh. I don’t really have much experience with the name, haha, that’s just how I would have assumed it was, especially with the double “G”. I don’t really like VEE-goh or VIH-joe…
I think I actually sort of crossed the usual and the new pronunciation and came out with something like VEE-jho. I had been saying VEE-go before and that does seem to be what Mortensen uses, so it must be what I had heard to begin with. On second though yes I do think that’s best. VIG-oh is a new one. I wonder if most Americans are saying that though.
I’m with Dantea. [name]Viggo[/name] Mortensen has been the only person I “know” with the name so I’ve gone with his pronunciation of Vee-go.
I have heard of 3 and they all say Vee-go.
Vee-go is the only way I’ve ever heard it
