How do you pronounce Violet?

When you say [name]Violet[/name] out loud, do you say the o? In other words, do you say “vi-oh-let” or “vi-let?”

I say “[name]Vi[/name]-let”

I also say vi-let

I wonder this too… I think not knowing makes me like [name]Violet[/name] less.

I’m gonna go ahead and say VIGH-let. Idk if its correct or not but I don’t pronounce the o.

I will sometimes put the O in there I think it really depends on my mood. I do the same thing with [name]Avery[/name]. I say it more like Ay-ver-ee instead of Ayv-ree

I pronounce it vi-ah-let. But I sneak the ‘a’ sound in there.

Ditto – vi-let. I feel like the “uh” is there in between, but it’s very understated and lost in the change in sound from “i” to “l”, if that makes any sense.

This is a tough one. I am tempted to say that I say it as VYE-oh-let, but I think in practice it probably sounds more like VYE-uh-let or even just VYE-let but with a very extended first vowel (if I am speaking very quickly!). I like the 3 syllable pronunciation and I don’t usually notice the whole violent [name]Violet[/name] thing that many people fear.

Vigh-let is pretty much how I say it too

[name]Vi[/name]-oh-let.

It never fails to make me say ‘[name]Violet[/name]! You’re turning [name]Violet[/name], [name]Violet[/name]!’ in my head.

[name]Vi[/name]-let…

My daughter’s name is [name]Violet[/name] and we just pronounce it with two syllables, vie-lit. Maybe it would be different in a different accent, but here in the Midwestern US that seems to be the norm.

I say [name]Vi[/name]-let

Also [name]Vi[/name]-let, but wouldn’t think it was weird if you side [name]Vi[/name]-o-let or [name]Vi[/name]-ah-let. I don’t think I would notice. But all pronunciations are lovely. It’s a great name.

I say vi-let

I say “vi-uh-let”- not quite 3 syllables, maybe more like 2.5? I’ve lived in [name]Ontario[/name], [name]Canada[/name] all my life if that makes a difference.

I say [name]VI[/name]-let.

Definitely [name]Vi[/name]-uh-let. My pet peeve is when people drop syllables in names. [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Frederick[/name] – all three syllables to me.

[name]Vi[/name]-let just sounds weird… I can’t even say it like that without putting an effort into it.

Like violent without the n…which is one reason I’m not so fond.

I say it with two syllables. [name]Vi[/name]-let.
