I’ve heard of two different pronunciations of the name and I’m wondering which one is the more “popular” of the two.

The most common pronunciation is willa-MEE-nah. I can’t think of any other way of pronouncing this name.

willa-MEE-nah, but I slightly include the H, just really really softly… so like, willha-MEE-nah. I guess there’s hardly a difference.

Honestly it’s the spelling that I don’t like about it. If the traditional or more common spelling was something like [name_f]Willamina[/name_f] I could get behind it.

I think the most common pronunciation is as the others have said. I find it odd though as it completely ignores the second “l” which makes me wonder if will-ul-mee-nuh or wil-hel-mee-nuh. That said, I’m not dutch!

I prefer the willa-MEE-nuh prn and actually [name_f]Willemina[/name_f] / [name_f]Willamina[/name_f] is a variant of the name. I might consider going with that spelling if in the USA as it seems clearer but otherwise most people are going to only hear the name not read/spell it – though when it comes to that there will be some mistakes. From what I can tell it’s a legit alternative.

[name_f]Willa[/name_f]-mee-nah. I always used to mispronounce this in my head until I spent like a fortnight binge-watching Ugly [name_f]Betty[/name_f].

I am Dutch and I pronounce it [name_m]Will[/name_m]-hel-mee-nah. As far as I know [name_m]German[/name_m] people pronounce it this way as well.

[name_m]Will[/name_m]-helm-mina, I generally stress the “[name_m]Will[/name_m]” and the “[name_f]Mina[/name_f]”, that’s why I didn’t capitalise them in the pronunciation since I overly say two parts of it.

I’ve always said will-hell-MEE-nuh. It’s never occured to me to pronounce the ‘hel’ as ‘a’ :confused:
