How do you pronounce Xavier?

Our son is due in [name_u]July[/name_u]. One of our front runners for his name is [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]. We have been pronouncing it zay-vee-er, but my mum keeps pronouncing it ha-vee-ay, and my best friend pronounces it ex-zay-vee-er.

I’m wondering how other people pronounce it. And perhaps where they are from?

I’m from the Mid-Atlantic US and I say “zayv-yer” but I went to HS with a lot of Xaviers and they all seemed to pronounce it “ex-ayv-yer”

I usually say “ex-zay-vee-er” because that’s how the handful of classmates by that name pronounced it. Zay-vee-er would make sense to me, too, though.

ZAYV-yer. I’m from the Midwest USA.

I say Ksay - ve - yer. Im frome Europe.

[name_f]England[/name_f], and I say ZAY-vee-uh.

ZAY-vee-ər, ZAY-vyər when I’m being more sloppy in speech. I’m in the US. [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] is very handsome.

I’d say it ZAV-ee-arr.

Unless they were a [name_m]French[/name_m]-speaker… then ZAV-ee-ay.

I’m in [name_f]Canada[/name_f].

I would pronounce it ex-zay-vee-er and I’m from the U.S

The one [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] that I knew pronounced it as zayv-year, from SoCal by the way.

I said ex-zay-vee-er. I’m from the north east USA

My cousin’s little boy is named this, we pronounce it as ex-zay-vee-er, and we’re Canadian.

I live on the US/Mexico border, so my initial thought would be ha-vee-air, like [name_m]Javier[/name_m]. I’m familiar with the other pronunciations as well, although I’m not sure which I would actually say out loud.

I’m with your friend, and pronouncing the X sound

I’m from [name_u]California[/name_u] and i pronounce it ex-zay-vee-er

I say ZAV-yer or ZAV-ee-er, depending on how lazy I’m being at the moment.

I’m from the Mid-Atlantic, too.

I would naturally say Zay-vee-er/ Zayv-yer however, I do know of a few people with this name who also pronounce the X at the front ie: Ex-ay-vee-er/Ex-ayv-yer. I have never heard anyone say it has Ha-vee-ay before.

I am in Australia.

I’m in the US and i’ve always pronounced it ex-ay-vee-er, like they did in the X-men movies, haha. Without that association, I probably naturally would have pronounced it as Zay-vee-er though.

Why don’t you keep life simple and just spell it [name_m]Zavier[/name_m]?

I’m in Australia and I say Zay-vee-er. I love it. I would have thought your mum’s pronunciation would have been spelled [name_m]Javier[/name_m].
