How do you say Selene?

I want to know the correct way of pronouncing this name, is it (Seh-leen) or (Seh-leen-ee)?

‘seh-leen’

Thank you! I’ve heard said both ways and wasn’t sure.

Properly (in Greek, I think) it’s se-lee-nee, but many will say it like [name]Celine[/name].

Well, as a Greek, the proper Greek way to pronounce [name]Selene[/name] is seh-lee-nee. She was the Titan of the moon. All Greek names ending in E have the long EE sound.

Everyone in [name]America[/name] will pronounce it seh-leen though. I prefer the original pronunciation, but you’re unlikely to get it over here.

Seh-lee-nee. It was the name of [name]Cleopatra[/name]'s daughter and it’s on my list.

Kleopatra

What dantea said!

I’ve only ever heard [name]Selene[/name] pronounced as Seh-leen, even in our short mythology sections in 5th and 9th grade, that’s how the teachers said it. So you won’t have any luck getting the seh-lee-nee pronunciation… people would most likely see that as incorrect unless they know Greek.

Correct Greek pronunciation: seh-lee-nee
In [name]North[/name] [name]America[/name], the pronunciation you’ll most likely get: seh-leen

I’d say it like “Suh leen” on first glance, but if told it were pronounced otherwise in its native language I would respect that.
