I instinctively say veer-ah because of [name]Vera[/name] [name]Bradley[/name] but I prefer more so the Vair-ah pronunciation because I’m a Latinist and I think of veritas. So the “ver” in “very” sound. Beautiful name.
I automatically say [name]VEER[/name]-a. If I knew it was a nickname for [name]Verity[/name], however, I’d probably say VEH-ra, closer to the pronunciation you like.
I say it [name]Veer[/name]-ah. If you like the Vair-ah sound what about [name]Farrah[/name]?
Lol wow… At first I thought this was such an obvious question, then i started thinking about it!
I say closer to ‘veer-a’ most of the time but do say it the other way too.
If you like the shorter e sound I would still use it if you can know/accept that some people will draw out the first syllable, even if you don’t.
[name]Just[/name] thinking of my mom (her accent is very confused), i KNOW she’d say it one way and be absolutely unable to change the way she said it. That sort of thing would annoy me since she is such a close relative and likely using the name often. If she had a more perceptive ear to pick up on the difference, it wouldn’t bother me (assuming I did have only one preferred pronunciation, which I guess I don’t for [name]Vera[/name]!)
I say veer-ah… actually maybe close to vee-rah now that I think about it. Like the singer Dame [name]Vera[/name] [name]Lynn[/name]. I’m Canadian but listen to a lot of music and read a lot of news from [name]Britain[/name], so that may affect how I pronounce things in general…
It’s VARE-ah/VAIR-ah for me.
I say Vee-rah but I love the Vair-ah prn.
[name]VEER[/name]-uh for me - I’ve never heard it pronounced any other way. I quite like the look of [name]Vera[/name] and think it’s lovely in the middle name spot - though it can, of course, work in the first name spot.
[name]Veer[/name]-a, but I go light on that “ee” sound. I think I actually say it right in the middle of [name]Veer[/name]-a and Vare-a.
Unless there is an accent over the e I would instinctually prn. it [name]Veera[/name]. I do know a girl from [name]France[/name] named [name]Vera[/name] with the accent prn. Vaira.
I pronounce it VAIR-ah.

As I’m not a native, I have a hard time trying to understand how “VAIR-ah” and “[name]Veer[/name]-ah” are actually read, but I think the way we read it here in my country is VAIR-ah - Pronúncia de vera: Como pronunciar vera em Esperanto, Espanhol, Norueguês, Esloveno, Italiano, Feroês, Islandês, Sueco, Húngaro, Alemão, Malgaxe, Dinamarquês, Latim, Guarani, Inglês, Albanês, Português (the one by Dalivedo). It’s so much beautiful than “veer-ah”!
(plus, in Portuguese and in Spanish, spring is primavera - literally, “cousin vera”. Everyone wants to have a cousin named [name]Vera[/name] so that they can say “[name]Prima[/name] [name]Vera[/name] is coming”. [name]Lovely[/name]!

I can see it going both ways and voted Vair-uh until I realized that I probably say it more like [name]Veer[/name]-uh because of [name]Vera[/name] Wang. However, my first instinct would definitely be Vair-uh based on the spelling. [name]Veera[/name] = [name]Veer[/name]-uh imo.
BUT I’m going to guess most people would say it [name]Veer[/name]-uh because of [name]Vera[/name] Wang.

I would default to VEE-rah unless I knew the person was Spanish or Russian or something. So if I saw the name [name]Vera[/name] [name]Garcia[/name] I would say VAIR-ah, but if it’s [name]Vera[/name] [name]Jones[/name], I’d assume VEE-rah, if that makes sense.
