I have recently started to really like the name [name]Melissa[/name], much to my suprise. Growing up, I knew plenty of girls named [name]Melissa[/name]. I had a thin, brunnette, and artsy cousin with the name. I also knew a beauiful, smart, kind, and very outgoing girl named [name]Melissa[/name] with a great personality. On the other hand, I knew a lot of trashy and rough girls with the name. This is mostly because I grew up in a rough and trashy town hahaha. [name]Do[/name] you guys think the name is girly, pretty, with a little frill or ugly, trashy, and bad?
I love the meaning of the name [name]Melissa[/name] and also how it is frilly and feminine with the possibility of a tomboy nickname “[name]Mel[/name]”. Many people may still consider it dated, but I think it would be cute on a little girl.
I like [name]Melissa[/name]. It isn’t exactly fresh, having been so extremely popular in the 70’s, but it’s pretty and more usable to me than [name]Jennifer[/name] or others from that time period.
To me, [name]Melissa[/name] doesn’t feel dated like other names that were popular when I was a kid. I think it’s just lovely, and it makes me think of the song “Sweet [name]Melissa[/name]” by the Allman Brothers.
I like [name]Melisande[/name] but [name]Melissa[/name] feels dated to me. More than [name]Jennifer[/name], actually, just to quibble with some innocent poster up thread. I put [name]Melissa[/name] in the bad-dated box with [name]Karen[/name] and [name]Tina[/name], not the “around in the '70s but were a thing before and after too” like [name]Jenny[/name] and [name]Amy[/name].
That’s just me. And I’d much rather see a little [name]Melissa[/name] than a little [name]Maddison[/name] or [name]Mikayla.[/name] It’s just not really my thing, you know?
I like [name]Melissa[/name]. It still feels a bit dated to me but I love that it means “bumble bee” and most of the Melissas I’ve known have been great people. I’ve never been crazy about [name]Mel[/name] as a nn, but I do like [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Izzy[/name], and I sort of like Liss/[name]Lissa[/name], and [name]Lissie[/name] is pretty cute, too.
… bad personal experience with melissas… neighbor was "[name]Melissa[/name] poopy pants"ages 3-12… yes she pooped her pants at 12…very very odd girl… and another melissa introduced herself as missymoo…“because I like cows… MOOO!” (she was 17)… so all round bad experiences with [name]Melissa[/name]… but i do like the nn [name]Mel[/name]… but i’d use [name]Melany[/name] rather than [name]Melissa[/name]. (p.s neither of these melissas were “special” just odd!
I like [name]Melissa[/name] okay, but the only one I’ve known was a rich snob, so that’s ruined it for me a little. I think it’s a fine name though, and not too dated.
I like [name]Marissa[/name] more…I don’t like [name]Mel[/name]- names I guess- [name]Melanie[/name], [name]Melania[/name], [name]Melinda[/name], [name]Melina[/name]- none appeal to me…and [name]Missy[/name] appeals to me even less.
[name]Melissa[/name] conjures up a mean girl in my mind. That name is sooo my generation (child of the 70’s here). I think it is a lovely name though.
I actually like the name [name]Melissa[/name] (in fact it’s on my “long list” of names I’d use). Although the name itself is a bit dated, I think it would fit in with the other popular “frilliana” names. Of course I knew several growing up (considering my age), but none that gave me a bad impression (and unlike in my generation it wouldn’t be overused for a contemporary girl).
I think it’s pretty dated and I like the alternatives of [name]Marissa[/name], [name]Marina[/name], [name]Melody[/name], [name]Melina[/name], etc. better. I also have a bad association with a [name]Melissa[/name], so I think the name has been ruined for me.
Fooey on those who say it’s dated. I’m glad to say the name [name]Melissa[/name] is not beneath me in the least. It seems okay overall, but I’ve had pretty good associations with the name, so I can’t really complain. It just seems like such a friendly and easygoing name, not pretentious, but not dumpy either.
It’s a beautiful name, feminine without overly frilly. I dont think it’s dated at all, if anything there would be fewer little Melissas running around making her name more unique.
Plus I believe in the importance of every girl having a nice song with her name…“Sweet [name]Melissa[/name]” fits the bill.
I’m a [name]Melissa[/name]. I’ve never liked my name, because growing up I was one of many. [name]Even[/name] now, I work two jobs, and there’s another [name]Melissa[/name] at each one of them.
That said, a “new” [name]Melissa[/name] probably wouldn’t have the same problem, and yeah, I do think it’s a pretty name. I think it would be a great middle for a shorter name, i.e. [name]Wren[/name] [name]Melissa[/name].
[name]Melissa[/name] sounds very dated to me. I’ve known a ton of them growing up, sorry!
I like it much better spelled Muhlyssuh
I have never liked the name [name]Melissa[/name]. It just rubs me wrong I guess and I’ve only met mean girls with that name. Definitely not a favorite.
I’m very fond of the name [name]Melissa[/name]. Especially with the nn of [name]Lyssa[/name].
I don’t think it’s trashy, or rough at ALL! Very nice and familiar name.
It is pretty but I couldn’t use it. I was born in `79. There were so many [name]Melissa[/name]'s when I was growing up. Most of the [name]Melissa[/name]'s I knew were nice so no bad associations. I don’t see it as particularly frilly though definitely girly. Would age well.
