Some people who have the name use one pronunciation and some use another.
I’ve always heard it as thee-uh. My baby niece is named this and this is the pronunciation her parents use. I also have a niece named [name_f]Taya[/name_f]—pronounced tay-uh.
Different locations, dialects, and languages seem to have different pronunciations. You may run into people using one of them other than what you’d use, but just correct them and people should catch on.
I personally use THEE-UH (also from watching [name_m]Arrow[/name_m]) but I don’t think [name_u]TAY[/name_u]-[name_m]AH[/name_m] is incorrect - names can have more than one correct pronunciation.
I use THEE-UH. I think [name_u]TAY[/name_u]-[name_m]AH[/name_m] comes from languages that don’t use the “th” sound.
I have a friend who uses the pronunciation thee-ah. I’ve have another friend called [name_f]Taya[/name_f] who pronounces it as it looks.
THEE-[name_m]AH[/name_m]. But it’s one of those names that can be pronounced differently depending on location.
It depends on the context for me. If it was in real life, I would say tay-ah, because that’s how the name’s pronounced in Dutch. However, every time I read it on this site, in English stories, et cetera I hear thee-ah in my head.
This.
[name_u]Tay[/name_u]-ah is [name_f]Tea[/name_f] - common European variant of [name_f]Thea[/name_f]… I would pronounce [name_f]Thea[/name_f] more like [name_m]Thay[/name_m]-ah
Thanks everyone
I say THEE-ah, too.
I’m in Europe and [name_f]Tea[/name_f] is very common in my country - it’s pronounced TEH-uh. However, every time I see [name_f]Thea[/name_f], I read it as TEE-uh. It’s the different languages and dialects, that’s all. And if someone mispronounces the name, you simply correct them and they should catch on.
In English speaking countries it is primarily pronounced as THEE-ah.
I would say THEE-UH myself, as I know someone with the name [name_u]TAY[/name_u]-UH, hers is spelled [name_f]Teah[/name_f]. [name_m]THAY[/name_m]-UH is also a commonly used pronunciation for [name_f]Thea[/name_f], I believe.
Thee-uh definitely. Like [name_u]Theo[/name_u] with an a.
Thee-uh for me. [name_f]Taya[/name_f], [name_f]Tea[/name_f] or [name_f]Tea[/name_f] with an accent over the “e” would be tay-uh imo. But people with different languages may well pronounce it [name_f]Taya[/name_f]. I’d think most english speakers would opt for the thee-uh saying of the name, though.
I’ve never heard [name_u]TAY[/name_u]-ah, only THEE-ah.
However I know someone who goes by [name_f]Tea[/name_f] (full name [name_f]Teodora[/name_f]), and her pronunciation is [name_u]TAY[/name_u]-uh.
