How is Vera pronounced?

Hey everyone!

I wanted to know how people pronounce [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. Is it pronounced like the “eer” sound in eerie, or the same sound as [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f]? I’ve heard both pronunciations!

I always use the “eer” sound. It never occurred to me to pronounce it a different way, but I suppose it could depend on where you are from (I’m from the Midwestern US).

I’m not much help bc I too prn it like ‘Vee-rah’, but I’ve heard it prn ‘[name_f]Ver[/name_f]-ah’…

This is kind of like how with names like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]/[name_f]Madeline[/name_f], some people instinctively prn it one way or the other, but neither is really wrong persay

I pr it ‘[name_f]Ver[/name_f]-ah’.

Same here! I think most people will say it with the eer sound.

In the UK it’s usually [name_m]VEER[/name_m]-uh.

I believe the VEHR-ah pronunciation is used in some European languages.

I’ve only ever heard veer-a

[name_m]Veer[/name_m]-a. I do know one lil girl with the other pronunciation. Her name is Vaira

I’ve only ever heard the [name_m]VEER[/name_m]-ah pronunciation.

I say VAIR-ah in my head, but when I say it out loud it’s generally [name_m]VEER[/name_m]-ah. Mainly because I assume I say it a less popular way so I just assume most say it the other way, haha. I’m the same way with [name_f]Clara[/name_f]–CLAH-rah in my head but [name_f]CLAIRE[/name_f]-ah out loud.

Either. I have an Aunt [name_f]Vera[/name_f], pronounced [name_m]VEER[/name_m]-uh, but I’ve also heard VEHR-uh quite often.
