I’ve seen this name bouncing around the Nameberry forums. I had never heard of it before, and want to know how everyone is pronouncing it.
I pronounce it “ZEF-er.” It’s a Greek name meaning meaning “the west wind”. Zephyros was the Greek god of the west wind.
I’ve always pronounced it the way it is sung in the song ‘[name]Zephyr[/name] Song’ by the [name]Red[/name] Hot [name]Chili[/name] Peppers, that was where I first heard it.
ZEF-uhr. It’s a glorious name!
Not the best association but all I can think of is rhymes with heifer (which is why I’d never use it on a girl)
That’s one of my favorite songs!
I first heard the word zephyr when I saw a documentary about the [name]Zephyr[/name] Team (the subjects of the movie Lords of Dogtown), so I can only imagine the name on a laid-back surfer/skater boy
Agreed. [name]Zephyr[/name] is lovely!
ZEF-uhr.
I am incredibly in love with the name [name]Zephirine[/name], which is a feminization of it.
