Some names and words have a variable number of syllables depending on dialect, country or language.
For you, how many syllables in the following?
[name_u]Kyle[/name_u] - 1 or 2
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] - 1 or 2

[name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] - 4 or 5
[name_u]Kyle[/name_u]- It’s kinda of in between 1 and 2 but I’ll go 1

[name_u]Charles[/name_u]- 2
[name_m]Carl[/name_m]- Dame as [name_u]Kyle[/name_u], in between 1 and 2 but I’ll go 2

[name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f]- 3

[name_u]Cameron[/name_u] - I go back and forth between 2 and 3
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] - 3
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] - 3
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f] - 3

[name_m]Jayceon[/name_m]- I’m not really sure how to pronounce this name. If it’s like [name_m]Jason[/name_m], 2 syllables.
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]- 3
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f]- 3, 4 if pronounced in Spanish
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]- 4 in [name_f]English[/name_f], 5 in Spanish
[name_m]Maximilian[/name_m]- 5
This is based on how I would assume each name is pronounced, but if I were corrected I would pronounce it with the amount of syllables the person told me to.
[name_u]Kyle[/name_u] - 1
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] - 1.5 (long 1)
[name_u]Charles[/name_u] - same as [name_u]Miles[/name_u]
[name_m]Carl[/name_m] - 1
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] - 2 (I’m actually quite confused as to how it could be one)
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m] - 3
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u] - 2
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] - 3
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] - 3

[name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] - 3
[name_m]Jayceon[/name_m] - 2 if it’s like [name_m]Jason[/name_m], 3 if it’s Jay-see-on
Added a voice recording too, for clarification. And I’m from the UK!
Kyle- 2 (didn’t actually realise until I really thought about it, I’d almost say 1 and a half?)
Miles- 2 (same as above)
Charles- 1
Carl- 1
Graham- 2
Xavier- 3
Cameron- 2
Julia- 3
Avery- 3
Gianna- 3
Nevaeh- 3
Jayceon- 2 (I think, not really sure on pronunciation)
Amelia- 4
Alicia- 3
Anastasia- Depends. An-uh-stay-juh is 4 and An-uh-stah-zee-uh is 5
Maximilian- 4
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - 4
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f] - 3 or 4 - I’d instinctively pronounce it ah-lee-see-ah, but the only [name_f]Alicia[/name_f] I’ve met pronounces it ah-lee-sha
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m] - 2.5 in [name_u]French[/name_u], 3 in [name_f]English[/name_f] (sah-vee-eeh/sah-vyeh, say-vee-er)
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u] - 3
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] - 2.5
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] - 3
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f] - 2.5 (I know it’s supposed to be 2 but I don’t always live up to it)
[name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] - 3 (but honestly I don’t think I’ve ever heard it said out loud)
[name_m]Jayceon[/name_m] - instinctively 3, but maybe it’s a spelling of [name_m]Jason[/name_m], so 2?
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - 4
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f] - 3 in [name_f]English[/name_f], 3.5 in [name_m]German[/name_m]
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] - 4.5 in [name_f]English[/name_f], 5 in [name_m]German[/name_m]
[name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] - 4.5
about the .5 syllables:
For many names, the line between ya and ee-a (for ia) is blurry. It depends on how clearly/fast I say it. Doesn’t apply to all names though, and I can’t always explain why.
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m] 3
[name_u]Cameron[/name_u] 2.5? The e is almost silent but not completely so
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] 3
[name_f]Gianna[/name_f] 3
[name_f]Nevaeh[/name_f] 3
[name_m]Jayceon[/name_m] 3? I’ve never heard it before
Kyle - 2
Miles - 2
Charles - 2
Carl - 2
Graham - 1
Xavier - 3
Cameron - 2
Julia - 3
Avery - 2
Gianna - I’m used to people saying it with 3 so that’s my default, but if I hadn’t heard the name before, I’d guess 2
Nevaeh - 3
Jayceon - 2 or 3
Amelia - 4
Alicia - I say it with 4, but I would assume the 3 syllable prn if I met one
