I know it’s #11 in the States (which is where I live), but I’ve never met any [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]’s here, have you?
I’m going to give the standard “even a name that #1 nowadays is not nearly as popular as #1 names 30/50/80 years ago”.
I’ve met one [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and she’s in her 30s. I think it’s a lovely name and if you love it, you shouldn’t let supposed popularity scare you off.
I’ve never met one either. I am in the Eastern United States.
There were 10,702 girls named [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] born in 2016. In 1985, there were 10,658 newborn girls named [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], and it was ranked #29 that year. [name_m]How[/name_m] many girls named [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] do you know? [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Sara[/name_f], [name_f]Angela[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Erin[/name_f], [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], or [name_u]Kelly[/name_u], all of which were given to 10,000-12,000 girls that year? (I’m totally guessing that you were born mid-80’s!) If the answer is “I know one or two of each” then your daughter might know one or two other [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] too. But that’s not really a lot! So if you love the name, go for it!
I love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] :). I live in Australia and I know 2 Amelias - 1 is 7 years and 1 is 13.
Only one child.
I know at least several (well, mix between [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Amalia[/name_f], but I don’t think I know any [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]), and I hear it pretty often too so I consider it quite popular.
I know two - one is an adult and the other 3.
I am in [name_f]Canada[/name_f]. I don’t know any personally but I think it is very popular and still increasing in popularity. I know many people who have had it on their shortlist and many who are still considering it.
I teach dance to kids 18 & under, and I have quite a few 0-10 year olds named [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. I would guess probably 5-10 Amelias out of about 400 students. So it’s not akin to [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] in the 80s, but it’s quite popular. I don’t think popularity is necessarily bad, but it’s really up to you. Your [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] will likely meet many other Amelias, but you have to choose whether that bothers you. There are benefits to having a more common name- it’s easy to say and spell and it’s unlikely that anyone will think it’s “weird.”
This answer is going to be dependent on how often you’re around kids.
I know four [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]'s who I see quite frequently but have heard about/seen online friends-of-friends with girls named [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], so I’d say I know of roughly 10 girls with the name under the age of 8. I know two of them go by [name_f]Mia[/name_f] most of the time. I liken [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] to [name_f]Heather[/name_f] and [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] 30 years ago - definitely dated now but not so overdone that you’re exhausted by it.
I personally know 2 Amelias, both under 5.
I know a 5 year old [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and a 4 year old [name_f]Amalie[/name_f].
My name’s [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]! I’m in [name_f]England[/name_f] and, yes, I’d consider it very popular. As I understand it (correct me if I’m wrong), it held the #1 spot here for a good few years until last year, when it dropped to #2 to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
Personally, I don’t know that many girls called [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - probably about five, maybe ten. However, I’m not in contact with small children at all, besides my own cousins’ kids, so my judgement probably isn’t that accurate.
I know of two. Both children. I know it varies by location, but I don’t think it’s too common.
