I’m pregnant with twins and in love with the name [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is a family name, [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] I just like. I don’t, however, like popular names. My son is named [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], and that is borderline too popular. I know 5 little boys named [name_u]Emmett[/name_u].
I love, love, love, [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. It’s feels perfect and fits well with [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] & [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. I just don’t want to pick something that is popular or is going to be. According to the chart here it’s around #250 ([name_u]Emmett[/name_u] is around #150). I know the nickname [name_f]Addie[/name_f] would be quite popular.
Is it going to blend into [name_u]Addison[/name_u], [name_f]Adelynn[/name_f], etc.? Does it seem like it’s going to wind up being quite popular?
I loved [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] for a long time as well, but the popularity has ruined it for me.
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], in my opinion, really stands out among names such as [name_u]Addison[/name_u] and [name_f]Adelynn[/name_f]. Unfortunately as [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] (and its many spelling variations) have gained in popularity, there’s a good chance that [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] will. But it’s just that- a good chance. You really love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], so use it. Of course you may be different, but I know many parents who dislike popular names, gave their children names that gained in popularity, and weren’t as bothered as they thought they would be because the other kids named x weren’t THEIR x. You never know if a name will become more popular. [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is beautiful!
It is a beautiful name! There is a chance it will become more popular, as it has a number of attributes that are currently en vogue for girls (long, feminine, starts with a vowel, instinctive nickname). Then again, maybe the similar names have peaked and are just kind of holding steady? At any rate I would use it since you love it and it’s not crazy popular. Perhaps choose a more distinctive nickname than [name_f]Addy[/name_f]- [name_f]Della[/name_f], Aidy, Lady?
I really don’t think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] will get much more popular than it currently is. [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is what you’d have to worry about. I agree with pp suggestion to go for a more distinctive nickname.
In general, I really think you should go for it, regardless of popularity! [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is beautiful and classic, and you clearly love it. (For the record, I’m also a fan of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].)
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is a good, strong name, and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] as a combo is just gorgeous! I don’t think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] will become too common a name, nor do I think it (or [name_f]Addie[/name_f]) will be lumped in with the [name_u]Addison[/name_u] types. She stands her own, for sure.
I wouldn’t call [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] a common name. It ranks #258 which means 1227 girls were given the name in 2016. It’s been steadily rising the past decade, but I don’t think it will become as popular as [name_u]Addison[/name_u] or [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] with all of their spelling variations. I like [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and I think it stands out amongst the Addisons and Adelines.
I agree with others who suspect that [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] will likely remain distinctive but the nickname [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is quite popular. If popularity bothers you, I would avoid “[name_f]Addie[/name_f]” and just use [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] or you could use [name_f]Ada[/name_f] or [name_f]Della[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is a beautiful, distinctive, classic name that would be wonderful to wear, but is unlikely to become super trendy–but that’s just my guess. I hope you use it.
It’s a beautiful name and sounds perfect with [name_u]Emmett[/name_u].
[name_f]Imo[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is far from popular. That could just be where I live though.
I love the [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f], [name_u]Addyson[/name_u] type of names, but I don’t put [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] in the same box as them. [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is much more exotic whereas the others are more trendy.
You could always use [name_f]Della[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Addie[/name_f] as a nn!
I don’t think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is likely to become super popular, but the nickname [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is pretty common, so I’d call her [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] or [name_f]Della[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is beautiful!
(I’m also a fan of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], obviously, and I’ve been around loads of little kids for 2 years now, and have not met another little [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. Or another [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] for that matter, despite how highly ranked it is!)
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is lovely. I’m around young children quite a bit and I haven’t encountered any Adelaides (although I also haven’t met any Emmetts either, so popularity in my area may be different from yours). I would recommend looking at the popularity rankings in your state (if you’re in the US) to see if [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] ranks. It does sound similar to [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]/[name_u]Addison[/name_u] etc. and [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is a popular nickname. It would blend a little bit, but I don’t think that’s a terribly good reason to abandon a name that you clearly love. It is completely impossible to predict whether a name will become popular. Fifteen years ago, [name_u]Harper[/name_u] was a very unique choice- it didn’t even rank in the top 1000. But it’s now a top 10 staple, so if you chose [name_u]Harper[/name_u] to be unique in 2002, you’d be very disappointed now. For that reason, I would recommend choosing a name you love so much that you would still love it if it became popular.
I agree with others that the right nickname could help prevent [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] from blending in with the Addisons and Adelines. I have a soft spot for [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], but [name_f]Della[/name_f] is a great option too.
I think it’s a lovely name (as is [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]).
I love [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is so gorgeous. The popularity of [name_f]Addie[/name_f] makes me not want to use it but you could just insist on calling her [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]? [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is a sweet nickname for it too.
