How to find Maggie

We both find [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] so sweet. I would love to reach it in a surprising yet lovely way. Neither of us care for [name_f]Margeret[/name_f] or [name_f]Margo[/name_f] or [name_f]Margerite[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband doesn’t lean toward flower names so [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is out. Our oldest daughter is named [name_f]Elena[/name_f] which seems too near [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] (my favorite of the ones I have come across.) Any options we’ve neglected? [name_m]New[/name_m] ideas. Thanks!

Some of these are more of a stretch than others:
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Magali[/name_f] (Occitan form of [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f])
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f] / [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
Morgause
[name_f]Morrigan[/name_f]
Megara
[name_u]Madigan[/name_u]

Word names
[name_f]Madrigal[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Magenta[/name_f]

What about just [name_f]Magda[/name_f] by itself? [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Magda[/name_f] would be sweet together. It doesn’t have the exact sound, but I think Megaera could work with [name_f]Maggie[/name_f].

I think you should just use [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]

Have you considered Magalie?

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f], and what about [name_f]Magdala[/name_f]?

I’m a [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] that comes from [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]. [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] is actually my middle name (full name: [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]…after my mother and grandmother) but I have always been [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is perfectly usable on it’s own and, had I had a say, I would have just chosen [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] as a first name.

Why search for a different way to get there with a name you have to figure out when you already love the nickname?

Thanks for the feedback. We just don’t give the children nicknames. We have 3 daughters already all their names are 3-4 syllables with a shorter nn. I too go by a nn. And have always appreciated having both options. [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is very sweet and we do like it but neither the [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] names nor simply [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] (no matter how darling) quite seems right especially since it would be so very different from our other daughters’s names.

Could anyone tell me more about Magalie? I haven’t ever heard this name. What does it mean? Origin?

[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]?

Magalie is a variant of [name_f]Magali[/name_f], a form of [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] from southern [name_f]France[/name_f].

I don’t think [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] are too close, and I adore [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f]. Otherwise, if you don’t like any names that could lead to [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], or [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] itself, I think it is time to consider another name. There are SO many lovely ones out there, it is pointless to fixate on a name that just doesn’t quite work for you.

[name_f]Madrigal[/name_f], [name_f]Margery[/name_f], [name_f]Magdala[/name_f], [name_u]Madigan[/name_u], [name_f]Magali[/name_f], [name_f]Magola[/name_f], [name_f]Magritte[/name_f], [name_f]Magli[/name_f].

What about [name_f]Megan[/name_f]?

If you love [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] yet hate all the names it is short for, then just use [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. No point in giving her a name you don’t care for (or are even just “ok” with), just to call her [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. (I do like the suggest of [name_f]Margery[/name_f], though, not sure how you feel about that.)

Personally, I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and think it would give her a great option for later on. But again, if you hate it, no point in using it. I like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f].

You already have some excellent suggestions. I love [name_f]Magali[/name_f]/Magalie and [name_f]Margery[/name_f]. I would suggest…

[name_f]Magdaline[/name_f] (this spelling gets rid of the ‘len’ sound that’s in [name_f]Elena[/name_f])
[name_u]Madigan[/name_u]
[name_f]Macaria[/name_f]/[name_f]Makaria[/name_f]
[name_f]Makeda[/name_f]
[name_f]Makara[/name_f]
[name_f]Makala[/name_f]

You could also consider combining her first and middles to get [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. Something like

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Mahala[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Malaya[/name_f] [name_u]Galen[/name_u]
etc.

We chose to name our daughter just [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] because we were having the same dilemma, and were ultimately okay with a nickname-name.

Another combo suggestion is [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]. If I didn’t loathe [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] we might have gone that route.
