I adore the name Cherry, it sounds so friendly and bubbly with just a pinch of sassiness, and it reminds me of Cherry Valance from The Outsiders, which was one of my favourite books/movies as a teenager.
I know Cherry’s a bit out there so I was trying to think of ways to make it a nickname. I’ve only thought of Cheryl “Cherry” which I love but S/O wasn’t keen (he may come around to it, bc one day he said he liked it and the following week he wasn’t a fan )
What are some other longer names I could use to get to Cherry? I don’t typically like nicknames that are super distantly connected from the original name unfortunately
Or, could Cherry work on her own?? Other names we like are Stephanie, Kelly, Heather, Jessica, Christina, Melanie, Jennifer for girls, and Daniel, Michael, Sean, Tyson, Matthew, Kevin, Garrett for boys - could Cherry work as a sister to any of these?
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_f]Charity[/name_f]. [name_u]Or[/name_u] perhaps Sherilyn/Cherilyn.
I think [name_f]Cherry[/name_f] could work as a full name (there is a TV presenter where I live called [name_f]Cherry[/name_f] Healey)… though I would be wary of the teasing potential.
I think [name_f]Cherry[/name_f] is cute! Maybe [name_f]Cherise[/name_f], Cherina, [name_f]Cherish[/name_f], [name_f]Cherralyn[/name_f], [name_f]Chery[/name_f], and [name_f]Cherylee[/name_f] could work as alternatives
I like the suggestion of [name_f]Cherith[/name_f]! Gorgeous and underused name, which is a clear pathway to [name_f]Cherry[/name_f]! I personally don’t like [name_f]Cherry[/name_f] as much as a standalone as I do as a NN for [name_f]Cherith[/name_f], but if you love it, go for it.
Another option is the obscure [name_f]Marchery[/name_f].
And if you wanted to be really quirky you could go for the boys’ name [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] and use the final syllable as the [name_f]Cherry[/name_f] launchpad.
@greyblue - Unfortunately no, I can’t use [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (or [name_f]Charlene[/name_f], funnily enough!) I like [name_f]Rochelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Charmaine[/name_f] though!! @Harvest-Endellion - it’s a classic! [name_f]Cerise[/name_f] is nice, not sure S/O would go for it And [name_f]Strawberry[/name_f] is so cute! I could see myself using [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Strawberry[/name_f] if my daughter has hair like me (strawberry blonde). @katinka - oooh [name_f]Cherie[/name_f] could work! Also ties into my heritage a bit, being [name_u]French[/name_u]!
One of my teachers had a daughter called [name_f]Cherish[/name_f], nn [name_f]Cherry[/name_f]. I always thought that was a beautiful and sweet name. Kind of like a virtue name but not?
I think that you could get there with a name that has red in the meaning. Cherry would also make a great middle name, and that way she could still go by it as a nn!
Maybe [name_f]Serena[/name_f], [name_f]Charmian[/name_f] or [name_f]Charisse[/name_f] would work with nickname cherry? But I’m not sure wheter that’s your style.
