We are expecting baby #3 this spring. Siblings are [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] ([name_m]Tommy[/name_m]) [name_u]Ryan[/name_u]. We are not finding out if this next one is a boy or a girl. My husband has always like the name [name_m]Cy[/name_m]. To me that is a nickname and it needs something more behind it.
I have considered the following, but don’t love any of them:
[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]
[name_m]Cyril[/name_m]
[name_m]Sylvester[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] (too similar to [name_f]Alice[/name_f]?)
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] (this is probably my favorite, but I don’t know if we would use a nn)
[name_m]How[/name_m] else can we get to [name_m]Cy[/name_m]/[name_m]Sy[/name_m] with a name that also flows with the siblings? Thanks for your help!
[name_m]Sylvester[/name_m] - also a bit out there (I do associate it with the cartoon character)
[name_m]Sirius[/name_m] - aside from the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] association and the radio station, it is also the name of the brightest start in the night sky (which I think is cool)
and lastly the most usable of them all
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] or [name_m]Symon[/name_m]
I think [name_m]Simon[/name_m] will go great with [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] as a sibset. They are all consistently popular classic names.
[name_m]Cyprian[/name_m]
[name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] (If [name_u]Sky[/name_u] or [name_u]Kai[/name_u] works as a nn, why not [name_m]Sy[/name_m]/[name_m]Cy[/name_m]?)
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Simeon[/name_m] (I like this more than [name_m]Simon[/name_m], personally! [name_m]Said[/name_m] [name_m]SIM[/name_m]-ee-uhn)
[name_m]Cyprus[/name_m]
I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], and [name_m]Simeon[/name_m], or [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], and [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u], for example, would be smashing.
I love [name_m]Cy[/name_m] too… but I realized I like [name_m]Cy[/name_m] written more than spoken, so we’re doing [name_m]CY[/name_m] initials for a future boy.
In your sibset, I’d avoid another S-ending. [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is wonderful and simple. Definitely my favorite of your options… but I think he’d have to be “[name_u]Si[/name_u]” which visually is nowhere near as lovely as [name_m]Cy[/name_m].
[name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], and… [name_m]Cecil[/name_m]? (Prefer the “SEE-sil” pronunciation.) I think [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] has some of same qualities as [name_m]Simon[/name_m]… Look at [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] one way and he’s nerdy and gentle, another way and he’s kind of debonair and powerful. Also [name_m]Colin[/name_m] could work with [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], with a Y middle name to give you [name_m]Cy[/name_m].
[name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m]
[name_m]Cecil[/name_m] Yvain (for example) Actually I think [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] could be [name_m]Cy[/name_m] even without a Y middle.
[name_m]Cyro[/name_m]
[name_m]Cyprian[/name_m]
both a bit exotic next to [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_m]Tommy[/name_m].
I would avoid another “s” sound at the end. Two is a coincidence, but three is a theme. I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], and [name_m]Simon[/name_m] are perfect together.
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] is by far your best bet (in my opinion). It is classic yet consistently popular just like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. It may not be your favorite, but if it gives you the name you love [name_u]Si[/name_u]/[name_m]Sy[/name_m] I would go for it. You can solely refer to him by [name_u]Si[/name_u], but once he has an equal and proper first name like his siblings, it will be fine.
