How to get to nn Nonnie?

[name]Hi[/name] everybody,
I grew up next-door to a sweet old lady named [name]Nonnie[/name] (not sure if that was her real name). I love the name, but don’t think it’s enough on its own, and can’t think of how to get there via a longer name.

Can you guys think of any girl names that would lead to a nickname of [name]Nonnie[/name]? Thanks!

It’s a variation of [name]Eleanor[/name] according to this website.
I think it would work for [name]Ananda[/name] and [name]Anonna[/name].

My children call my mother [name]Nonnie[/name]…it’s Italian/Sicilian for grandmother. Maybe, [name]Wynona[/name]??? I have to ponder on that one.

how about [name]Rhiannon[/name]? you could get away with it! and if you hate the spelling you could always play with it. The name means Divine [name]Queen[/name]… AND she would have her own song!

I love [name]Anona[/name], it means of the harvest I think

good luck

Agreed re: [name]Nonnie[/name] for grandma. That’s what I called my (Sicilian) grandma and what my daughter now calls my grandma and my Mom. Maybe that’s where it came from for the woman you knew too? That doesn’t necessarily make it a bad nn for a child, but it sounds strange to my ears.

[name]Antonia[/name]
[name]Leona[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Simona[/name]

My favorite nn that I call my husband is [name]Nonnie[/name].

In “[name]Hamlet[/name]” [name]Ophelia[/name] sings a song that has “nonny” in it.

I grew up with a girl who went by [name]Nonnie[/name], but who’s real name was [name]Naomi[/name]. I’m pretty sure that [name]Nonnie[/name] was how her older brother pronounced her name when she was young, but now she’s almost 30 and still goes by [name]Nonnie[/name]!

[name]Nona[/name]

[name]Iona[/name]

hi!

I like [name]Noelani[/name], a Hawaiin name meaning “heavenly mist.” (No-eh-LAH-nee)

Other possibilities:
[name]Antonia[/name]
[name]Antoinette[/name]

Good luck!

[name]Algernon[/name]

I hadn’t thought of any of these! Thanks guys!

My aunt’s name is [name]Evonne[/name] (alternately spelled [name]Yvonne[/name]) and she goes by [name]Nonnie[/name].

My mom is [name]Nancy[/name] and this is her nickname.

my middle name is Kanani meaning beautiful in hawaiian…growing up i was called [name]Nani[/name] for short prn. the same as [name]Nonnie[/name]

I know this is an old thread but I’m new here! I know a [name]Nonnie[/name] whose full name is Nonalee.

[name]NOEMIE[/name], or No”mie, or No”mi.

The French and Hungarian version of [name]Naomi[/name]. Very popular in those countries.

I had a friend who went by [name]Nonnie[/name], but her name was [name]Diana[/name]! I thought it was pretty cute.

My kids call my mother [name]Nonnie[/name] (grandma) which is very common in italian households so I find it hard to see for a child…
