It sounds like [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] is the name for you.
Maybe you should try it out for awhile. Test it out at Starbucks or tell it to a stranger who asks about your pregnancy and see what reaction you get.
From your reaction, it seems like you’re just a bit gun shy about it. It’s a beautiful name, and there are far worse connections than a lovely woman in a great book & movie. And if you’re planning to use [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] a good portion of the time, then I think the harder connection would be to Pooh.
I love the wen names too but also worry about the LOTR connection with [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] even though it is a form of “muse” in Welsh. [name_f]Love[/name_f] Eirwen but worry about pronunciation and too close to [name_m]Erwin[/name_m]. We are seriously considering (what some might consider butchering) Maiwenn to the spelling Maywen so the pronunciation is more obvious in the states. The Maewen spelling also gets a favorable response.
I know a family w/ an [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]. And they named her [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] literally right as LOTR movies were huge. EVeryone did comment on it being from LOTR at the time but now I don’t think anyone thinks twice about it and it’s a sweet name! I mean if I heard someone use the name [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], I would think of LOTR but that’s not a bad thing! I love her character so I mean, not even a bad association.
Thanks so much!
We would use [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] almost exclusively also, which makes the decision a bit easier. [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] has grown on me today but it sounds like [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] should be considered too (although I’m still not completely convinced)!
I think I will try [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] out on some strangers and see how that goes.
I live [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] so much! And I love that it’s such a strong name while [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is sweeter & more youthful. Maybe like [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] could be just [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]? Or something like [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] could work? Or just [name_u]Wynne[/name_u]?
I adore the name [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and want to put it on my girls list. Our last name is a W though so not sure if that’s too much. But maybe with a proper first name like [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] or [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], it could work. Anyway, I think [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is just sweet!!
Thanks everyone!
We’re really interested in [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], need to consider it for a while and see if it sticks. We’re going to test out [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and see how that goes.
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] is my favorite. I also am in love with the name [name_f]Eowyn[/name_f] from LOTR. [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] is a beautiful name and probably won’t make an immediate LOTR connection if they mostly hear her referred to as [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].
