How to honor 2 grandmas in 1 name

Hi, there!

We are pretty sure on either Violet or Della for our first name. However we’d really like to honor both of the grandmas in her middle name. (preferably 1 middle name and not 2 but I’m starting to get less picky with desperation)

Lara Kay
Lori Jean

For me I would say anything that is related to [name_f]Laura[/name_f] would honor both of them, since their first names are almost the same. So anything like [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] etc.

[name_f]Lora[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] (has all of the letters)
Larean (beginning of [name_f]Lara[/name_f] and ending of Jean)
[name_f]Lari[/name_f]
[name_f]Lora[/name_f]

Welcome to NB!

I agree that the Laura family of names would go for both as they’re both likely derived from there. I’ll throw a few combos together to see what you think:

Della Lorelai
Violet Laurel
Della Lorraine
Violet Loretta

Ones that are a bit more international:

Violet Lora (this version literally combines them with 2 letters from each)
Violet Lorella
Violet Lola
Della Laurie
Della Loriline/ Laraline

Edit: Somehow Lorna got deleted and it’s one of my favorites!

Hopefully these help

I’d smooch them together [name_f]Violet[/name_f] Larajean

[name_f]Lara[/name_f] [name_f]Kay[/name_f] + [name_f]Lori[/name_f] [name_f]Jean[/name_f]

Whenever I get stuck, I look at this website for some ideas on combining two names.

[name_f]Jayne[/name_f] —> JEᴀN + ᴋAY
[name_f]Anka[/name_f] —> ᴊᴇAN + KAʏ
[name_f]Kaja[/name_f] —> KAʏ + JᴇAɴ
[name_f]Kairi[/name_f] —> KAʏ + ʟᴏRI – Changed the Y to an I getting an international variation of [name_f]Kay[/name_f]… [name_f]Kai[/name_f]
[name_f]Kari[/name_f] —> KAʏ + ʟᴏRI (see [name_f]Karen[/name_f], [name_f]Carol[/name_f] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] for additional meanings)
[name_f]Kayli[/name_f] —> KAY + LᴏʀI (see [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] for more info)
[name_f]Kora[/name_f] —> KAʏ + ʟORɪ
[name_f]Rika[/name_f] —> ʟᴏRI + KAʏ
[name_f]Riya[/name_f] —> ʟᴏRI + ᴋAY
[name_f]Lora[/name_f] —> LOʀɪ + ʟᴀRA
Liara —> LᴏʀI + ʟARA
[name_f]Liora[/name_f] —> LOʀI + ʟᴀRA
[name_f]Yana[/name_f] —> ᴋAY + ᴊᴇAN (see [name_f]Jana[/name_f] for meaning)
[name_f]Lana[/name_f] —> LAʀᴀ + ᴊᴇAN

Why don’t you combine [name_f]Lara[/name_f] and [name_f]Lori[/name_f] to get [name_f]Laura[/name_f] / [name_f]Lora[/name_f]?

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f] is a nice name.

[name_f]Lara[/name_f] [name_f]Kay[/name_f] and [name_f]Lori[/name_f] Jean…

[name_f]Lora[/name_f]
[name_m]Jay[/name_m]
[name_f]Leana[/name_f]
[name_f]Jayne[/name_f]
[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f]Leni[/name_f]
[name_f]Lana[/name_f]
[name_f]Laney[/name_f]
[name_f]Layla[/name_f]

I think you could potentially choose your fave L name to honour both too

I would say [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] would be the perfect option!

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] or [name_f]Della[/name_f] [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] are stunning :bouquet:

It can be tricky honoring two grandmothers in one name if they don’t have the same name. [name_f]My[/name_f] middle name, [name_f]Edith[/name_f], honors two of my great-great-grandmothers, who were both named [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. While your baby’s grandmothers have different names, they have similar names. I can actually think of three amalgamations of [name_f]Lori[/name_f] and [name_f]Lara[/name_f]:
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], [name_f]Laura[/name_f], and [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
I thought of [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] because it sounds similar to [name_f]Lori[/name_f] but has that second “L” to honor [name_f]Lara[/name_f]. I thought of [name_f]Laura[/name_f] and [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] because the first syllable in all three of these names sounds like a cross between the first syllable in [name_f]Lara[/name_f] and the first syllable in [name_f]Lori[/name_f]. I also personally prefer [name_f]Violet[/name_f] to [name_f]Della[/name_f] and the only middle among the three that pairs nicely with [name_f]Della[/name_f] is [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]. Meanwhile, all three pair nicely with [name_f]Violet[/name_f].
I hope this helps.

Laura sounds like a mix of Lara and Lora! That would be my choice. It’s would be a great honor name but a beautiful classic choice!

I would pick a different name that starts with l, use the letter to tie them.
[name_f]Lumina[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Liora[/name_f]

[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] or [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f]!

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] Lira
or [name_f]Della[/name_f] [name_f]Lari[/name_f]

Because both grandma names start with L, you can leverage that aspect in one of these ways:

Using L as a middle name or
Using [name_f]Elle[/name_f] as a middle name

So that gets you these options:

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] L Lastname
[name_f]Della[/name_f] L Lastname
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elle[/name_f] Lastname
[name_f]Della[/name_f] [name_f]Elle[/name_f] Lastname

The [name_f]Della[/name_f] combos are a little “L” heavy, but I still think it would work as long as your last name isn’t ellsworth or something else very “L” heavy.

[name_f]Della[/name_f] [name_m]Jay[/name_m]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Laurene[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Kori[/name_f]
[name_f]Della[/name_f] [name_f]Kori[/name_f]

I feel like it’s a stretch, but what about [name_f]Clary[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Clary[/name_f] or [name_f]Della[/name_f] [name_f]Clary[/name_f] are sweet, and the first part of [name_f]Clary[/name_f] seems to combine bits of [name_f]Lara[/name_f] and [name_f]Kay[/name_f] and -ry for the ending of [name_f]Lori[/name_f]? [name_m]Or[/name_m] maybe Corrie/Cori/Cora to combine [name_f]Lori[/name_f], [name_f]Kay[/name_f], and [name_f]Lara[/name_f]? [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is sweet.
