I’m in Australia, but I can’t imagine anyone saying anything but Ee-va here. (Unless they were specifically told otherwise.)

Personally, there is [name_f]Ava[/name_f] (ay-va) and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] (ee-va). Many cultures may pronounce [name_f]Eva[/name_f] differently from an English speaker.

Ay-va, but then again, I’m a foreigner. In English it’d probably be Ee-va.

[name_f]Eva[/name_f] can be ‘ee-va’ and ‘ay-va’ but I went with ‘ee-va’ as that how it’s most likely going to be pronounced where I live. It’s the name of the lady I have as my avatar, my great great aunt

Ee-va is how I would pronounce it.

Unless I was in Eastern Europe, I’d go with the ee-va pronunciation.

Most European countries would pronounce it ehh-va. I think its softer and more romantic that way.

ee-va is my first instinct, then ay-va.

I didn’t vote.
In Norway it would be EHH-vah, In English speaking countries I would assume EE-va.

Why anyone would pronounce it as [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and not spell it [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is sort of hard for me to understand. It’s a constant struggle for me to figure out about all the vowels not sounding like themselves but like a different vowel instead in the English language, especially with regards to names. I have to make a serious effort to establish that one vowel sounds exactly like another in Norwegian (this is seldom the case!), and we have three extra. Those interchanging vowel sounds make me want to tear my hair out at times! argh

They are all correct. It would be pronounced “[name_f]Ava[/name_f]” (kinda) by a Spanish-speaker. [name_f]My[/name_f] best friend is Puerto Rican and she named her daughter [name_f]Eva[/name_f], and that’s how she pronounces it.

[name_f]Eva[/name_f], I’ve never heard it any other way to be honest.

Thanks for all the votes and replies! I pronounce my name like Ee-va, but a lot of people pronounce it wrong on the first try, especially Europeans, so I was just wondering.
