[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries! Okay, so lately I’ve really been digging the name [name_f]Rowena[/name_f]. It sounds spunky and fun, something I look for in my favorite names. But I’ve been wondering about future pronunciation issues. I pronounce it [name_f]Ro[/name_f]-WHEN-ah, but I’ve seen [name_f]RO[/name_f]-when-ah (as in [name_m]Rowyn[/name_m]) and even [name_f]Ro[/name_f]-WEEN-ah. So how do YOU pronounce the name [name_f]Rowena[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it? [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]?
Thanks everyone for the quick responses! I’m glad to have cleared that up, everyone I talked to had different ideas about pronounciations. I still think I prefer [name_f]Ro[/name_f]-WHEN-ah, but I might spell it Rowenna to make it clearer.
I say [name_f]Ro[/name_f]-WHEN-uh, and I love it! [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is nice too. But because of the ee-nuh (which I really don’t like)/ehn-uh divide I’ve settled for Rowenna.
Most here (in Australia) I imagine would say ro-WEEN-uh, but I dislike that pronunciation myself. I prefer ro-WEN-uh, which then leads me to prefer Rowenna to [name_f]Rowena[/name_f].
I’ve only ever heard [name_f]Ro[/name_f]-wee-na too. There was a girl called [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] in my class back when I was in school. She did get called “weiner” a LOT, so that may be something to think about.
I don’t like it with [name_f]Joy[/name_f] just because I really don’t like [name_f]Joy[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Faith[/name_f], etc. as middle names because they just feel like fillers to me.
I have an aunt and though she doesn’t go by [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], that pronounce it [name_f]Ro[/name_f]-Ween-ah but before I realized that I used to think of it as [name_f]Ro[/name_f]-when-ah
[name_f]Ro[/name_f]-WHEN-a. I’ve never heard it pronounced ro-WEEN-a. I love this name, though! If I could find somebody who loves [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] like I do (and is a Ravenclaw) then I’d totally consider this name for a baby girl.
