How to spell Charlie for a girl

Growing up with a name that had multiple spellings was annoying, to say the least. When looking at baby names, I prefer the traditional spelling. For [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], I would nickname [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], is that how to spell it when you gender-bend it?

Yes - I get called [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and I much prefer this spelling to [name_f]Charli[/name_f] or [name_u]Charly[/name_u].

I would just spell it [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] honestly. Maybe [name_u]Charley[/name_u] or [name_u]Charly[/name_u] for something different.

I know a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and a [name_f]Charlene[/name_f] who are known as [name_u]Charlie[/name_u].
I also know a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] known as [name_u]Charley[/name_u].
I know 3 females called [name_f]Charli[/name_f], [name_f]Charleigh[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlee[/name_f], these are their given names though, not nicknames.

Yup, [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] is how I would spell it. I’ve always liked [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u].

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u].

I know a little girl named [name_f]Charli[/name_f] (that’s her full first name) and I’m not a fan. Too cutesy.

[name_f]My[/name_f] cousin is named [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and she goes by [name_f]Charli[/name_f].

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. You don’t get anything from [name_u]Charley[/name_u] or [name_f]Charli[/name_f] that you don’t get from [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], so why wouldn’t you just spell it properly?

I love [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. But I think it should just be spelt [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], no other creative way. It’s a great name so I don’t think there’s any need

[name_u]Charley[/name_u]* is how I’d spell it for a boy or girl but there’s nothing wrong with [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] either.

It starts getting silly when people make something ‘trendy’ like [name_f]Charli[/name_f] or Charleey.

*Removing the ‘s’ from [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and replacing it with a ‘y’ seems the most logical way of spelling the nickname to me.

I’d spell it traditionally as [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] too!

I would spell it [name_u]Charlie[/name_u].

I knew a Charliegh once (yes, iegh) and she hated her name. It was always a burden and nobody ever spelled it right. I’d choose [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. It’s darling and the original spelling ends in ‘ie’ so it’s not as if there’s no femininity about it whatsoever.

Definitely Charlie. If the gender thing is an issue, Disney had a show that recently ended (after four years) called Good Luck Charlie. The Charlie was a little girl named Charlotte, who was always called Charlie. I think that might have helped make that spelling a bit more unisex.

Plus that, the Charlotte’s I know who are my age all go by Charlie (that’s about 4-5 girls). I think just going for the most common spelling is going to be easiest.

FWIW - I know three girls who have this as their legal given name - one is Charlie, one spelled Charley, and one spelled Charlee.
