[name]Eva[/name] was my great grandma’s name but she pronounced it E-vah not the normal EE-vah. If you used this name today and spelled it [name]Eva[/name] EVERYONE would call her EE-vah. Would you just spell it that way and plan on correcting people her whole life? I just don’t see how else you could spell it and I hate made up spellings but I also don’t want to hate her name because she had to correct everyone her whole life. Advice?
I knew a girl who used to work in the barn where I rode. Her name was [name]Eva[/name] but pronounced [name]Evva[/name]. She corrected everyone once and then that was it. I’ve heard it [name]EEva[/name], [name]Evva[/name], and Ayva. Depends on your language, culture, and taste. The only way to determine the short e phonetically would be to spell it [name]Evva[/name], which looks weird.
I’ve hear EE-va, EH-va, EV-ah, and AY-va. I think celebs like [name]Eva[/name] Longoria and the character from [name]WALL[/name]-E have made the EE-va and AY-va more common, but it really does depend on the person’s background, location, etc.
[name]Eva[/name] (EH-va) is common in Spanish speaking countries. Usually, it’s anglicized to sound like [name]Ava[/name] but still spelled [name]Eva[/name] ([name]Eva[/name] Mendes is a good example)
I’d just spell it [name]Eva[/name] and correct people, or change the pronunciation if you’re that concerned.
Agreed! Spell it [name]Eva[/name]. There is no easier way to spell it - you’ll probably still get questions. [name]Just[/name] spell it [name]Eva[/name], introduce your daughter as [EH-vah], and people will catch on. [name]Eva[/name] can be pronounced many ways - there’s [EE-vah], [AY-vuh], and [EH-vah] - so anybody who uses it will probably have to tell people how to pronounce it. It’s gorgeous, so I’d go with it!

PS I know an [name]Alicia[/name] who pronounced her name [uh-[name]LISH[/name]-uh] instead of the “normal” [uh-LEASH-uh]. Told me one time and now I’ve got it!
Awesome everyone! Thank you so much! I do think spelling [name]Eva[/name] is the best thing to do and i’ll just have to get use to correcting people! Oh well I love the name and it means a lost to me so [name]Eva[/name] it is!
What about [name]Evelyn[/name]? Beautiful name, and the [name]Eva[/name] nickname would be much more intuitive. Good luck either way!
