How to spell Eye-lee?

I knew an [name]Eilidh[/name] from [name]Scotland[/name]. She pronounced her name Ay-lee (Ay as in hay). I think [name]Eilidh[/name] is a Scottish name, rather than Irish.

[name]One[/name] of my students is eye-lee, and it is spelled [name]Aili[/name]

I would go for [name]Isla[/name] or [name]Ayelet[/name] and nn her Islie or Ayelie. That way you’re using a legitimate name and not making one up.

I have a friend whose sister is Eily. The more I hear/see it, the more I like it.

we have a friend Eily (yes, pronounced eye-lee)…the true finnish spelling is [name]Aili[/name] …just an fyi…if you want to get technical

I know a girl named Eye-lee who spells it [name]Eilidh[/name]. No one [name]EVER[/name] gets it right. Her response is, “EYE-lee. It’s a Welsh name.”

[name]Isla[/name] would probably be a better option, I think people will mispronounce it much less often.

[name]Isla[/name] nickname Islee would be ok.

Aylee, Ilee,

My friend’s daughter is biracial (half Chinese, half American) and she uses the Mandarin spelling, [name]Aili[/name], and it means love and beauty in Chinese.

But I think Irish/Welsh spellings are different.

[name]Just[/name] for everyone’s info [name]Eilidh[/name] is Scottish gaelic name pronounced Ay-lee (ay as in hay). It is NOT Irish or Welsh! The -idh ending is a common suffix in Scottish gaelic names pronounced “ee”. If you are going to use one of these names then please at least pronounce it correctly!

To the original poster I’d go with Isley or Eiley - but it’s going to be made up whatever you do so go with whatever you like best.

I would spell it Eiley.

Eileigh, in my opinion.

The first time I saw it, it was spelled Ilee. It looked really pretty on something personalized. But the Ily “I love you” is really cute.

The one I know spells it [name]Aili[/name].

[name]Aili[/name] is the correct spelling for the traditional Finnish name. I think it’s pretty. A little girl down the street from me is [name]Aili[/name] after her Finnish great grandma.

First thing that came to my mind was Islee, because of the name [name]Isla[/name]. Eylie looks nice as well

When I first read the post, before I read all the responses, I thought Islee. There are so many different suggestions! I guess it’s up to you, the child will probably have to correct people on pronunciation no matter what, unfortunately. I love the way it sounds though.

I have a friend who’s name is Ailie, pronounced Eye-lee. She often has to explain it when she first meets people but they pick it up quickly!
