I’m really liking the name [name]Nell[/name]. I can see it standing alone or as a nickname. Any suggestions for names where [name]Nell[/name] would be a good nickname?
[name]Nell[/name] is traditionally a nickname for [name]Eleanor[/name] / [name]Elinor[/name] or [name]Ellen[/name], and it’s apparently thought to have been developed from the phrase “mine [name]El[/name]”, which makes me think that it would work as a nickname for an name that begins with [name]El[/name] - [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Elodie[/name], [name]Eleni[/name], and so on. [name]Helen[/name], [name]Helena[/name], and [name]Penelope[/name] are also good options.
[name]Nella[/name] is also a bit nickname-y, but it might seem slightly more substantial than [name]Nell[/name] and is a more direct possible long form.
I love [name]Nell[/name]! I hope that you find a long form that you like. I know that I’m forgetting some options, but I’m sure some other Nameberries will be able to suggest them.
I like [name]Nell[/name] - I think it can probably stand alone, but I prefer it as a nickname. Some ideas for a full name (I like some of these, and others are not really my favorites but I can see [name]Nell[/name] working as a nickname for them):
[name]Chanel[/name]
[name]Danielle[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Eleanora[/name]
[name]Ellen[/name]
[name]Helen[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Nelda[/name]
[name]Nella[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Petronella[/name]
I really want a [name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Nell[/name], so I obviously think that’s a great option, as well as the traditional [name]Eleanor[/name] etc.
My great-great-aunt was called [name]Nellie[/name] but her real name was [name]Eleni[/name], that could work too.
I do like [name]Nell[/name] as a stand alone name as well actually
I second [name]Nella[/name]. It’s the only -nell- name I’m overly fond of.
I really like [name]Nella[/name]. It’s been on my list for years. I also like [name]Nellie[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Janelle[/name]?
I love [name]Nell[/name], [name]Nelle[/name], [name]Nellie[/name], [name]Nella[/name], so cute. My favourite is [name]Penelope[/name] as a longer name.
I’m especially liking [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name]. Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions!
Honestly, I think can [name]Nell[/name] can stand alone. I have a good friend that named her daughter [name]Nellie[/name] and it works. For formal names, I like [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] as well.
I have a [name]Nella[/name]. She’s 19 months old, a doll and her name fits her perfectly. Some see it as a nickname but I think it stands alone without any issue at all. We have received a ton of compliments on it. I think [name]Nell[/name] fits that as well. Personally I don’t love any of the “proper” full names like [name]Elinor[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], etc.
[name]Nell[/name] is cute! I don’t love it for my own list, but it is nice seeing it on others’. It reminds me of the character of [name]Nell[/name] on NCIS: Los [name]Angeles[/name]–smart, quirky, fun, feminine. I think it suits her completely. I used to love [name]Nell[/name] [name]Aurora[/name]/[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Nell[/name], but I don’t think I would use it on its own anymore–I like the idea of [name]Eleanor[/name] nn [name]Nell[/name] probably the best, but I think [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Helena[/name] also work.
Good luck!
[name]Love[/name] [name]Nell[/name] as a nickname for [name]Penelope[/name]!
Best wishes!
I have been told it can also be a nickname for [name]Annabelle[/name].I like [name]Nellie[/name] too like [name]Little[/name] House on the [name]Prairie[/name].
Hmmm…I really love the name [name]Annabelle[/name]. I’d have to warm up to the idea of that nickname. I really like having the option of shorter nicknames for longer names, but the character on NCIS:LA definitely made me fall in love with the name on its own.
Thanks again for all these awesome suggestions!
