I pronounce it -MEEL but I had a friend (American but of [name_u]French[/name_u] heritage) who pronounced it -MEE and she didn’t have any issues that I know of

Cah-meel, but I’ve heard Cah-mee too

in [name_f]English[/name_f], I say cə-MEEL

in [name_u]French[/name_u], it’s more like ca-MEE(y), where the “a” is pronounced like in “cat” and there’s a slight “yə” sound in the back of the mouth because the tongue is positioned higher when making the “ee” sound
