At the top of my name list is Colibri. It is Italian (among other languages) for hummingbird. I think it sounds beautiful and would love [name_m]Cole[/name_m] as a NN. I’m just wondering if I’ll have to explain that every time I say the name–and that my daughter will, too! I’m also concerned that it might be read as Co-lib-ree and not Co-lee-bree. Any of you with unique names or kiddos with unique names, please share your thoughts!
Also, runner-up names are [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] (with the fear of hearing someone call her ‘[name_u]Nat[/name_u]’), and [name_f]Estella[/name_f] (NN [name_f]Essie[/name_f]).
No negotiating MN of [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
Side note–she will hopefully be sister to [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] someday in the future…
Before I saw where the thread was, I thought you were asking about Colibri for a boy because it sounds very masculine, especially with the nickname [name_m]Cole[/name_m]. I also think it’ll get mispronounced a lot.
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]'s a gorgeous name if I do say so myself. It’s my step-daughter’s name but we typically call her [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] (her middle name is [name_f]Grace[/name_f]). [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] is where [name_u]Tally[/name_u] in my sig comes from.
I’m not a fan of Colibri in sound or look. It sounds cutesy and I don’t think it would age well. Also, I don’t like the “Co-[name_f]Ro[/name_f]” with [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] and [name_m]Cole[/name_m] either. [name_f]Estella[/name_f] is unique enough without being over-the-top. [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] and [name_f]Estella[/name_f] just look like they belong in the same family. [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] is a fine name but I think [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] would give it a little more pizazz next to [name_m]Rocco[/name_m].
1 [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] and [name_f]Estella[/name_f]
2 [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] and [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] (instead of [name_f]Natalie[/name_f])
3 [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] and Colibri
Well, my main hesitation with it is that the first two syllables sound a lot like [name_f]Collie[/name_f]–as in [name_f]Lassie[/name_f].
It’s a lovely image, but the sound is a tad awkward in my mouth.
It is pretty, but I’m not sure about it.
Sorry, Colibri makes me think of the font, calibri. I’m not a fan. But, if you go with [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], the nn [name_u]Nat[/name_u] is inevitable. So maybe [name_f]Estella[/name_f]'s your girl! She sounds the best with [name_m]Rocco[/name_m] anyway.
