How Weird is My Name?

I work in a supermarket, and have done for about 3 years now. As a cashier, I wear a name tag, and, for the past 3 years, I’ve gotten the rare ‘oh, your name’s [name_u]Haley[/name_u]?! That’s such a pretty name!’, but, recently, every shift I’ve had in the past two months, has resulted in multiple people commenting on how ‘weird’ the name [name_u]Haley[/name_u] is.

Some say that the spelling is just weird (top spelling from 1995…but anyways)
Some say that the name in general is weird (yeah…)
Some say that they’ve never met an H-a-l-e-y

But generally it’s ‘oh…that’s…different’.

Is the name [name_u]Haley[/name_u] really THAT bad? I mean, I know I’ve never liked it, but, not because it’s weird, just because it’s unisex and there’s too many different ways of spelling it.

Your name is not weird…I don’t know where you live, but where I live in [name_f]Florida[/name_f] I’ve knows several Haleys throughout my life. All spelt differently. So to me your name is just normal. Not meaning that in a bad way.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] to check is your name pronounced the same as [name_f]Hayley[/name_f]?
If so then it’s not weird at all - it’s a slightly unusual spelling but in general I’d consider it to be a really normal, ordinary name - not weird at all!

Your name isn’t weird at all!! I know more [name_u]Haley[/name_u]'s than [name_f]Hailey[/name_f]'s. I wouldn’t really consider it unisex at all. All of the [name_u]Haley[/name_u]'s I have ever met are girls! Your name is beautiful. I really like it.

Yeah it’s pronounced like [name_f]Hayley[/name_f]. My mum wanted to name me after [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] [name_m]Mills[/name_m], but didn’t want me to have the [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] spelling because she knew a lot with that one.

Aw, haha thank you. [name_u]Haley[/name_u] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] [name_m]Osment[/name_m] is one of two guys I know of with the name, but I liked him growing up, and some kids I knew teased me over that haha.

That’s how I guessed it was pronounced. I’ve never met anyone who spells it that way before, I’ve only come across [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] and [name_f]Hayleigh[/name_f]. That being said, it is still definitely not weird, infact the [name_u]Haley[/name_u] spelling seems more normal to me that [name_f]Hayleigh[/name_f], [name_f]Haylee[/name_f] etc.

I was actually almost a [name_f]Hayleigh[/name_f], but my mum decided that it would be too difficult for a small child to spell, so she stuck with [name_u]Haley[/name_u], haha.

Really? I find [name_u]Haley[/name_u] to be a very 90s kid name. Sure, there are a bunch of spelling variations, but I know a bunch of Haleys and Haileys.I generally meet Haleys/Haileys who are around my age, but I’ve met a few babies/toddlers named [name_f]Hailey[/name_f]. I don’t know any Hayleys, except for [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] Atwell and [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m].

Your name is not weird at all. I have seen it spelled [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] more often than [name_u]Haley[/name_u] (my husband has a cousin named [name_f]Hailey[/name_f]), but I actually prefer the way you spell it. It’s more straight forward and cleaner looking (probably why it is the ‘unisex’ spelling - [name_f]Hailey[/name_f], [name_f]Hayley[/name_f], and [name_f]Haleigh[/name_f] are so fussy). I can’t imagine why anyone would call it ‘weird’.

I’ve known tons of [name_f]Hailey[/name_f]'s over the years. I think that’s the most common spelling i’ve come across, then of course some [name_f]Hayley[/name_f], [name_f]Halee[/name_f], etc.

I’ts pretty normal to me.

I actually like the sound of [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] quite a lot, possibly because I don’t know very many. It’s delightfully 90s, although I think [name_u]Halle[/name_u] slightly tops it for the Parent Trap reference.

[name_u]Haley[/name_u] does seem like a less-common spelling, but definitely not unusual. I would probably ask how to spell it anyway since there are so many variations.
