So with [name_u]Elias[/name_u] I’ve always thought that it’s pronounced EE-LYE-US but I’ve recently discovered an actor who pronounced it EH-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-US. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you guys pronounce it?
I had always read it as Eh-lee-us, it wasn’t until about last year when it was used as a character name on a TV show that I heard it as Eh-lye-as. Now I’m used to it as Eh-lye-as, so I use that as my default.
[name_f]EL[/name_f]-ee-əs, like [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] but ending in s rather than t.
I know ə-LIE-əs is pretty common in English-speaking contexts though.
Eh-lye-as typically.
Ee-lye-us. However, there is a Hispanic gentleman I work with by this name and I recently discovered that his family pronounces it something like “ellie-is”. Maybe it is a regional thing?
EE-lye-iss
I’ve always pronounced it Eh-lye-us!
It’s always been e-LYE-us, but I know the actor [name_u]Elias[/name_u] Koteas pronounces his name like [name_f]ELL[/name_f]-e-us.
He is the actor I was referring to. Big fan of the Chicago shows here ![]()
[name_f]El[/name_f] eye us…
I pronounce it the el-ee-us way. The only Elias I know says it that way, so I guess I’m just used to it.
