How would you pronounce Isa?

If it is obviously ee-ZA (as in the first half of [name]Isabel[/name]) then I love it!

But if it is more likely pronounced EYE-za, then I am not so fond…

thoughts?

I would actually say EE-sa (with an s rather than z sound.) But that may be because I know a little Spanish-speaking boy [name]Isaiah[/name] who goes by [name]Isa[/name], pronounced this way. Sorry to confuse things further!

[name]Isa[/name] would be my daughters nn if I named her [name]Ireland[/name], and I pronounce it, Eye-sa, with a soft ‘sa’ sound.

I would pronounce it EE-sa, with a soft S, rather than EE-za. Definitely not EYE- anything, though. I’ve only ever seen it used as a name in Francois de Mauriac’s novel “Viper’s Tangle” ([name]Isa[/name] was the mother), so I think of it as a French name and I don’t think they would make the “s” have a Z sound.

eee-sah

I know a little girl whose parents are spanish-speaking (not sure which country they’re from) named [name]Isa[/name]. She pronounces it EE-sa.

Ee-sah

My friend is named [name]Isabella[/name] and this is her nn. We pronounce it i-za. Like the word “is” with an a on the end.

EE-sah

I know an [name]Isa[/name] and a family with the last name [name]Issa[/name], both pronounced EE-sah. I think it’s awesome!

The names [name]Ida[/name], [name]Ira[/name], and [name]Ima[/name] are all pronounced Eye -. In Spanish, however, it would be Ee-sa

it is pronounced EYE-za

I wouldn’t really trust that, it’s just the end of an unrelated name in Arabic. The English one is Mount [name]Isa[/name], and sometimes places are pronounced differently than names. I think EYE-za, EYE-sa, EE-za, and EE-sa are probably all equally valid.

Here is a different site that offers a way of pronouncing it as well.

Here is another interesting link of people from around the world talking about the variances in the pn depending where in the world you are from.

I would say EE-sa

Woops, I said eye-sa when I saw it
