How Would You Pronounce "Leonie"?

I’ve developed a bit of a name crush on [name]Leonie[/name], but before I get too attached I’d like to see how others would pronounce it, especially with regard to the vowel sound of the first syllable and which syllable you would stress.

If there’s some variation it’s not the end of the world - my name is [name]Laura[/name] and I regularly get both [name]LORE[/name]-uh and LAHR-uh - but it would be nice if the majority pronounced it the way I’d intended. I won’t tell you which pronunciation of [name]Leonie[/name] I prefer to avoid influencing you

[name]Feel[/name] free to suggest middles, too!

[name]Lee[/name]-OH-nee is how I would pronounce it, although the french is [name]LAY[/name]-oh-nee or similar iirc. But I prefer the first one, personally.

I’m terrible with middle names! But from your sig I think [name]Leona[/name] [name]Adele[/name] could work, or [name]Leonie[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] (too much E sound?) if I’m picking one outside your other choices.

I say [name]Lee[/name]-oh-NEE (emphasis on the last syllable.) I like this name a lot too. I think something study in the middle would work better (since I see [name]Leonie[/name] as pretty and a bit cutesy.)
A few ideas:
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Paloma[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Julia[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Margot[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Seraphina[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] [name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Leonie[/name] Catheriner

[name]Lee[/name]-OH-nee.

Stress on the middle syllable.

I agree with everyone else - I say lee-oh-nee

A very soft [name]Lay[/name] sound for the first syllable. Kind of like Leh-OH-ne, emphasis on the middle syllable. Although, I don’t mind the [name]Lee[/name]- pronunciation either. I love this name, and I love the suggestion above of [name]Leonie[/name] [name]Margaret[/name].

That should be Leh-OH-nee.

I know one

She is [name]Lay[/name]-uh-nee, with an acute accent on the first e. She always says ‘you say it like A&E’.

I say it the French way, lay-oh-NEE.

[name]Lee[/name]-oh-nee. Never saw this name before and didn’t read the other comments.

I pronounce it lay-oh-NEE

The one I knew at school was an unaccented [name]Leoni[/name] (lee-OH-nee).

I pronounce it the same way my old teacher did back in college, ‘[name]Lee[/name]-OH-nee’

[name]Lee[/name]-oh-nee. My best friend’s mum is named [name]Leonie[/name]. She is one of two [name]Leonie[/name]'s I know and both pronounce it the same way.

I prefer [name]Leonie[/name] said the French way, lay-oh-nee, but if I just saw [name]Leonie[/name], with no accent, I would assume lee-oh-nee. It’s sad to say, but I don’t have much faith in [name]America[/name]'s ability to pronounce French names, hahaha. If [name]Leonie[/name] was on my list, though, I’d say lay-oh-nee, and if I saw it with the accent, Léonie, I would assume it was lay-oh-nee.

When I seriously considered adding it to my list, I really like Léonie [name]Evangeline[/name] and Léonie [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Claire[/name]. I think something like Léonie [name]Estelle[/name] or Léonie [name]Stella[/name] would be lovely, or even Léonie Hélène.

Good luck!

I would pronounce [name]Leonie[/name] as [name]LEE[/name]-oh-nee. I personally prefer Léonie which would be pronounced [name]LAY[/name]-oh-nee.

[name]Lay[/name]-oh-nee.

Ley-oh-NEE

I worked with someone named this. She pronounced lee-OH-nee.

[name]Susan[/name]

[name]Lee[/name]-OH-knee
