How would you pronounce Leonora?

[name]How[/name] would you pronounce [name]Leonora[/name]? [name]Leah[/name]-nora, or [name]Len[/name]-ora?

DH mentioned that he likes [name]Lenore[/name], but I prefer [name]Leonora[/name], as it both honors his Italian heritage and my grandfather, whose middle name was [name]Leo[/name]. It’s also related to the name [name]Helen[/name] and [name]Eileen[/name] (the latter being my middle name and the former being my grandmother’s middle name). So lots of great family ties!

Which nickname is your favorite (if any):

[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Lenny[/name] (spelling?)
[name]Nora[/name]

Thoughts? Thanks so much!

leh-o-NO-ra (so, that’s a ‘neither’ to your pronunciations), and I like [name]Nora[/name] best as a nickname.

I didn’t even think of that pronunciation! Thank you.

I would pronounce it [name]Leah[/name]-nora.

[name]Leah[/name]-nora. I like [name]Nora[/name] the best out of the nn options!

In Italian, it’s lay-ah-nor-ah and that’s the way I pronounce it. I love it because it’s the soprano name from La Forza del destino, one of my all-time favourite [name]Verdi[/name] operas. I saw [name]Leontyne[/name] [name]Price[/name] perform it and her “[name]Pace[/name], pace, mio dio” was incredible. I’ve heard [name]Lea[/name], [name]Leona[/name], [name]Lena[/name], [name]Leni[/name], and [name]Nora[/name] as nns; I prefer [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Lena[/name].

I would say it “lee oh nor ah”

[name]Lay[/name]-ah-nor-ah, or [name]Leah[/name]-nora. It’s very pretty! I would call her [name]Leo[/name]

Thanks everyone! I’m really liking it right now!

That’s how I’d say it too

Another nn to consider “[name]Lee[/name]”

[name]Lee[/name]-a-nor-a. I like [name]Nora[/name] best, but really like [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Lee[/name] as well as nns.
